Brilliant style exercise

The Jury of the XXIII Vargas Llosa Novel Prize, organized by the University of Murcia, the Caja Mediterráneo Foundation and the Vargas Llosa Chair of the Miguel de Cervantes Virtual Library Foundation, composed by Francisco Florit Durán, Soledad Puértolas Villanueva, Juan Jesús Armas Marcelo, José María Pozuelo Yvancos and Germán Vega García-Luengos, especially appreciated in their failure the fact that the author wrote a lyrical novel, "which is a brilliant exercise of style, in which the magical representation of the real world through the eyes of children is achieved thanks to the great descriptive, precise and accurate capacity in which the marine depths and the aquatic animals are painted with an admirable plasticity ". The jury also emphasized," its rich vocabulary, which goes from the absolute domain of the marine and fishery jargon to the representation of the local dialect, is perfectly suited to delineate a magical territory in which

the legends of the Cantabrian are alive ".

One of the best of his generation

Born in Audanzas del Valle (Léon) in 1967, José Manuel de la Huerga lived in Valladolid, where he was a professor of Spanish Language and Literature in a Secondary Education Institute.

Considered one of the best authors of his generation, he created his own narrative territory from 'Conjúrote, triste Plutón' (1992) to 'SolitariasS' (2013), a book where Barrio de Piedra emerged, an imaginary place that acquires even more prominence in its last novel, 'Steps in the stone' (2016), with which he won the Critics' Award of Castilla y León.

All his narrative and poetic work recreated spaces of memory, such as the novel 'Este notebook azul' (2000), Premio Ciudad de Móstoles).

With 'Leipzig on Leipzig' (2005), he won the Fray Luis de León Prize for Literary Creation), and with 'Apuntes de medicina interna' (2011), the Miguel Delibes Prize for Narrative.
