The UCAM breaks boundaries in science (06/06/2019)

The UCAM has held its V Conference of Research and Doctorate `Science without Borders', with more than two hundred national and international researchers, focused on removing the barriers that prevent contributing to the resolution of the great challenges of society.

More than two hundred researchers have presented at the UCAM their proposals for analysis of processes, designs of concrete models, population studies, which have highlighted that science is the engine for sustainable development in the course of the V Conferences of Research and Doctorate of the UCAM `Science without Borders', inaugurated by the Rector of the UCAM, Josefina García Lozano, together with the vice-rector of Research, Estrella Núñez and the director of the Foundation for the Knowledge of Madrid, Federico Morán.

During the ceremony, Estrella Núñez, Vice Chancellor of Research at the UCAM, insisted that "with this term we wanted to refer to the broader sense of the border, not only physical, but also that other type of borders that, although not being visible , they exist and they make that science, sometimes, does not shine in all its splendor ".

In addition, he added that it is necessary to talk about the Open Access movement, the dissemination of science to society, the academic mobility of researchers, mobility of researchers in the business world, or the current socio-political situation and the influence of phenomena migratory in science.

Among the numerous scientific dissemination activities in which doctoral students have participated in the PhD programs in Health Sciences, Technology Sciences and Computing, Sports Sciences and Social Sciences, it is worth mentioning the round table where national speakers participated and international first level, such as Iván Claudio Suazo Galdames, vice chancellor of Research and Postgraduate Universidad Autónoma de Chile;

José Antonio Gutiérrez Fuentes, director of the GADEA Foundation for Science and Borja Izquierdo Alonso, director of the European Office Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology FECYT.

Likewise, the Catholic University of Murcia has celebrated, in the same act, the final of the contest `My thesis in three minutes', whose objective is to reward the communication skills and staging of doctoral students of the International Doctoral School of the UCAM, classified the day before in an event developed on the TV set of the same.

The three finalists, Amparo Roca Sabater, Beatriz Muñoz Rosique and Antonio Serrano Fernández, of the doctorate programs in Social Sciences, Health Sciences, and Technologies of Computing and Environmental Engineering, respectively, have been presented with a 100% scholarship , 75% and 50% of the amount of the doctorate enrollment for the next academic year.
