Public tenders for projects will be convened for the remodeling of the San Francisco Plan Gardens, Plaza Ceballos, the Plaza between San Pedro and San Nicolás, and Plaza Preciosa.

The acting mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the dean of the Official College of Architects of the Region of Murcia (COAMU), María José Peñalver, signed this morning the collaboration agreement between both institutions for the study and drafting of proposals for remodeling of different urban spaces of Murcia, which will allow the recovery of four emblematic squares of the Murcian capital.

"These are environments that are part of the collective memory of Murcia, places that we want to value as part of our architectural and human heritage," said José Ballesta, who noted that "for this, we will have the best: Our College of Architects, which plays a central role in cultural, economic and social development, as part of Murcia's civil society. "

Specifically, the fixed agreement, as a starting point, the remodeling of the San Francisco Plan Gardens, Plaza Ceballos, the existing Plaza between San Pedro Street and San Nicolás Street and the Plaza Preciosa de Murcia.

These are actions of general interest that will be carried out through the announcement of public competitions for projects by COAMU, which will allow selecting the different design proposals that are presented.

EL COAMU, as a reference professional institution, already participates in the different strategic projects of the City of Murcia, such as the reordering of Alfonso X El Sabio Avenue, the rehabilitation of the Old Jail building or the enhancement of the Site and Garden of San Esteban, "performances in which the contribution of the College has been of extraordinary relevance", highlighted José Ballesta.

Gardens of the San Francisco Plane

The objective is to value this space that occupies an approximate area of 5,200 m2 and constitutes one of the main entrances to the city of Murcia.

The proposed design should seek the renewal and improvement of the conditions of habitability, recreation and enjoyment, as well as the improvement of its pedestrian and visual connection with the rest of the city through its surrounding environment.

The proposal must go beyond a simple remodeling of a garden, it is about setting up a space that invites citizens to enjoy it, both as a passage area and as a stationary area.

Ceballos Square

Plaza Ceballos, located between Simón García street and Pintor Villacís street, is a pedestrian space of 360 m2.

The proposal for the renovation of this space should have as its main objective the recovery of the same for the pedestrian, as well as adapt aesthetically to the recently reformed environment.

Plaza between San Pedro Street and San Nicolás Street

At the intersection between San Pedro Street and San Nicolás Street, a triangular square of about 650 m2 is generated, which is mostly occupied by a loading and unloading area and by several containers.

The intervention will achieve a more friendly environment for the pedestrian.

Beautiful Square of Murcia

Located between the recently reformed Paseo Alfonso X El Sabio, Jaime I Street "El Conquistador" and Avenida de la Constitución, it is a standalone area with an area of about 850 m2.

The proposed action must include all the necessary actions to update this square and its integration with the recently reformed urban space.
