The study of the problems of the economic geography through the comics gets the Prize to the Improvement to the Teaching of the UMU (05/06/2019)

The University of Murcia has delivered this Wednesday the Teachers Improvement Action Awards to recognize those initiatives that seek innovation in teaching methods in the institution.

The act of delivery took place in the gallery of rectors of Convalecencia, seat of the Rector's Office.

This call is intended for pre and post doctoral hired personnel, doctoral students, honorary professors and administration and services staff of the UMU.

The first prize went to the professor of Geography Marta Gallardo, who has developed a project for the study of economic geography through comics.

Gallardo explained that the students had to do a study "to know, evaluate and analyze the different perspectives of the problems posed by economic geography from the content of selected comics that have been working during the course".

Through the reading of these materials students have analyzed environmental, industrial, agricultural or employment problems, since "after extracting them from comics they have worked and analyzed them from the point of view of social reality", has detailed the teacher.

The result of all this work will be exposed in the Faculty of Law of the University of Murcia until next June 10.

The second prize went to Professor Bejamín Cutillas, researcher at the Department of Archeology, who has developed the project to unite new technologies with the study of the subject making students work their practices through a digital platform.

The third prize went to Rebeca González Guerrero, a researcher at the Faculty of Biology, who has launched an initiative for students to be interested in the study of science through the reading of novels.

The rector, José Luján;

who has presented the awards together with the Vice Chancellor of Studies, Sonia Madrid, has highlighted their satisfaction and the pride that the institution has for their professors and researchers to continually consider improving the quality of teaching.
