The Department of Traffic and Public Safety has activated today, June 1, the municipal plan INFOMUR Plan, emergency Civil Protection plan for forest fires in the Region of Murcia.

In this plan, which establishes a period of high fire danger until September 30, 4 volunteers of Civil Protection will intervene daily providing the service of prevention and extinction of forest fires.

They are joined by 33 local police officers and two firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Extinction Service

Thus, the Murcia City Council collaborates with Plan Infomur in the work of intervention with SEIS, and in the work of land mobile monitoring with the Civil Protection Volunteers of the City of Murcia and Local Police.

The affected fuel surface is 30,368 hectares of forest in the municipality of Murcia of the Regional Park of Carrascoy and El Valle and special protection areas for birds (ZEPA) in El Valle and Sierra de Altaona and Escalona.

The Ecological Patrol of the Local Police, made up of a corporal and 8 agents, intensifies this summer its habitual surveillance in the 43 Forest Parks and Municipal Farms susceptible to suffer fires due to the existence of important arboreal masses.

The device also has the participation of 18 agents each day of the Decentralization Unit, supporting the previous ones, especially at night.

The service will be carried out through intensive patrolling with special vehicles (off-roading and motorcycles) with which it is possible to move safely through areas of difficult access, often located off the roads and forest tracks.

In addition, the Fire and Rescue Extinction Service will also be reinforced daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. by 2 more firefighters, up to a total of 39 every day.

Regarding Civil Protection, the service will be carried out with two mobile stations composed of a couple of volunteers for each one of them (four volunteers per day) with a flexible and variable schedule between 12 noon and 20 o'clock.

These two mobile forest monitoring posts will cover two routes:

Route 1: Puerto del Garruchal, Camino de los Puros, Camino del El Relojero, El Sequen, La Balsa and El Valle, La Fuensanta Sanctuary, Cresta del Gallo, Forest Road, Los Garres.

Route 2: Corvera, La Murta, Astronomical Observatory, Pico del Águila, Corvera, Sale El Garruchal, Cabezo de la Plata.

The functions that they will develop are to discover foci or signs of possible fires;

monitor the different zones, geographically locate the foci detected, signal access to the fire area and communicate quickly and effectively the information to CECARM

The Local Police Ecological Patrol carried out a total of 1,484 surveillances in forest parks in 2018, which means 19,630 kilometers of off-road surveillance and 1,285 kilometers of surveillance on motorcycles.

They intervened in a firefight, but also carried out five rescues: Two injured cyclists, in Monte Miravete and in the La Naveta farm;

two hikers in difficulties in the Majal Blanco farm and a person injured in the path of Las Columnas, in El Valle.
