Murcia, in the Top 10 of the cities with the most bike lanes in Spain (31/05/2019)

The bicycle is a viable, sustainable and healthy means of urban transport, which makes it a solid alternative to motorized transport.

Even so, the trend is positive and more and more people prefer to pedal in their daily commutes between the house and the office, to which tourists are added determined to explore the city on two wheels.

For this reason, many Spanish cities are making efforts to acquire the necessary infrastructure that allows them to promote their use safely, comfortably and efficiently.

The total kilometers of each bike lane labeled as such on the platform have been calculated, filtering the subcategories that have produced incorrect results after a manual review.

Only bike lanes located inside the polygon of each city have been considered, as they are drawn on the platform.

Both side rails have been individually counted in the bike lane sections that include the double direction of the circulation.

All the results have been added by city and the ratio of meters per inhabitant has been calculated, on the basis of which the cities have been ordered.

No cities with less than 100,000 inhabitants have been considered.
