Robert Frank's personal cinema floods the Black Room of Puertas de Castilla (28/05/2019)

The Black Room of the Doors of Castile welcomes from Wednesday morning until July 7 three of the strangest pieces of photographer and filmmaker Robert Frank, made in the 70s.

In particular, you can enjoy 'About me: a musical' (30 '1971)' S-8 Stones Footage from Exile on Main St. '

(8 '1971) and' Keep Busy '(44' 1975)

From May 29 to July 7

In this selection the author covers different formats ranging from direct or pseudo documentary cinema to the road-movie or personal diary, which facilitates a more detailed analysis of the decisive influence that the cinema exerted on the narrative and sequential aspects of his photography.

In the films he develops and radicalizes the interests that have been initiated in his photographic work, among which is the reflection on the creative act itself, the contamination between the temporal and spatial aspects offered by both media, photography and cinema, the dichotomy between reality and fiction or the analysis of the relationship between memory, language and images.

Robert Frank is one of the most recognized photographers in the world, but he not only revolutionized the art of photography, but also independent cinema.

His portraits and snapshots of everyday life captured moments as diverse as the lives of London bankers, Scottish miners, Beat generation or rock stars like the Rolling Stones.

His transcendental book 'The Americans' is the most important postwar American photography publication and his work continues to influence photographers and has generated a body rich in theoretical writing.

At the time when Frank became a star of the art world at the end of the 50s, he abandoned photography to become a film director.

Although he took up photography again during the 70s, filmmaker Frank has remained a secret for almost 4 decades.

His filmography, practically unknown in our country, brings to light the singular role that it had in his artistic career.
