The most special graduation of the UCAM (23/05/2019)

The students of the VI promotion of UCAMPACITAS, social and labor inclusion program for people with intellectual disabilities, graduated in an emotional act.

Juan Carlos Morejón, territorial delegate of the ONCE in the Region of Murcia, has been the sponsor of the act

"I loved studying at UCAM, it's been the best thing that has happened to me in my life, a dream come true".

This is how Carmen Belchí, a student of UCAMPACITAS, began her speech at the graduation ceremony of the VI promotion of this socio-labor insertion program for people with intellectual disabilities, which took place in the assembly hall of Los Jerónimos Monastery.

The event was chaired by Estrella Núñez, vice chancellor of Research of the UCAM, who stressed the need to carry out projects related to socio-labor insertion.

"We have to improve the social, educational and labor integration support for people with special needs," said Núñez.

Ana González, director of the UCAMPACITAS program, also participated. She did not miss the opportunity to thank the teachers so much for their excellent dedication to the students, as well as their parents for entrusting their training.

In addition, Fernando Abad, father of Álvaro Abad, student of UCAMPACITAS, also pointed out the need for projects such as UCAMPACITAS and thanked José Luis Mendoza, president of the UCAM, for his commitment to it.

"I have been able to see the true happiness in my son's eyes because doing the internship has been useful and capable", commented Fernando Abad.

It should be noted that Juan Carlos Morejon, territorial delegate of the ONCE in the Region of Murcia, was the sponsor of the act: "You have enhanced the Catholic University of Murcia, you are helping to change it, making it a solidary, creative institution that provides solutions" , assured Juan Carlos Morejón.

UCAMPACITAS

The UCAMPACITAS program was launched by the Catholic University of Murcia in 2012. Its mission is to train young people with intellectual disabilities in academic, professional and personal skills for two years - including a quarter of work experience in companies from different sectors.

Once that period is over, the students obtain the title of 'Technician of Companies and Socio-labor Activities'.

Several of them have been incorporated over these years to the workforce of the Catholic University of Murcia.
