The Unit of Scientific Culture of the University of Murcia (UMU) will screen, within its cinefórum cycle, the film 'Moolaadé' in the Café de Ficciones, on Thursday, May 23 at 6pm.
This time, it will have the participation of Laura Gombau Giménez and María del Mar Pastor Bravo, experts in female genital mutilation and UMU teachers.
'Moolaadé' (Protection) tells the story of Collé Ardo, a woman from an African village who refused to let her daughter undergo clitoris removal.
After several years, four girls flee from this practice and ask for help from Collé.
In the film, you will see issues that have to do with the right to asylum (the 'moolaadé') and the traditional rite of genital mutilation (the 'salindé').
Through a colloquium, after the screening of the film, the public will be able to establish a dialogue with the two experts, who will raise questions and resolve doubts about the protocol followed and the challenges faced in the Region of Murcia in order to stop this practice.
To attend the event, you must send an email to ucc@um.es and wait for confirmation, as places are limited.
