The breakfast UMU-La Caixa address the improvement of the labor insertion of students with companies and with the third sector (22/05/2019)

The University of Murcia has celebrated the second edition of the Work Breakfasts with companies under the slogan 'Third sector, inclusion and disability'.

In this meeting, which took place in the convalescent building, headquarters of the rectorship, leading companies of the Region and organizations of the third sector that have addressed issues related to access to the job market of university students have been present.

The Work Breakfasts are backed by La Caixa.

In this second breakfast, representatives of IMAS, CERMI Region of Murcia, Diagrama Foundation, Proyecto Hombre, ONCE Foundation, Red Cross, IKEA, Terra Natura, El Corte Inglés, Hospital de Molina de Segura, SERVITIR, Residencial Villa de Mar, ISOL participated and the Federation of Mental Health of the Region of Murcia.

All participants have raised those responsible for the Center for Employment Guidance and Information of the University of Murcia (COIE) those issues they consider important to improve the employability of university students.

The management of practices and the training of skills that enhance the professional growth of students have been the most addressed issues.

Companies have placed special emphasis on fostering external internships from the first moment in which the university degree begins.

In terms of skills and social skills, future employers explained that they look for students with leadership skills and emotional intelligence.

Knowing languages, and not only English, is another of the requirements highlighted by companies.

Regarding the companies and organizations of the third sector, they have stated that they perceive some ignorance of their work by the students and their role as promoters of the inclusion in the workplace of people with disabilities.

Antonia Martínez Pellicer, COIE director, explained to the attendees the actions they carry out as an employment service within the University of Murcia and its relationship with companies, especially in the field of placement agency and student internships .

He also thanked the collaboration of all participating entities with the work of bringing students to the reality of the companies and has committed to take into account all the contributions and suggestions raised in the Breakfast.

The rector, José Luján;

the Vice Chancellor of Employment, Entrepreneurship and Society, Alicia Rubio, have also participated in the meeting.

and Lourdes Torivio, delegate in the Region of Murcia of the Banca La Caixa Foundation.
