An application created by students for the improvement of air quality gets the 1st City of Murcia Award (19/05/2019)

The Councilor for the Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, highlights the wide participation of Murcia in the activities and workshops held this weekend in the Plaza Circular on the occasion of Internet Day, where nearly 5,000 people have passed.

The interest aroused by new technologies has made the Plaza Circular a permanent attraction for nearly 5,000 Murcians who have come to enjoy the activities, workshops and talks that have taken place throughout the weekend.

The event ended at noon today with the award of the 1st Ciudad de Murcia - Internet Day Award, which recognizes the best SmartCity idea that contributes to the development of smart cities.

In it the STEM Talent collaborates, an organization that works to awaken early technical vocations, especially among women.

The award went to the 02Save project, presented by the Technofireflies team, formed by Estela del Carmen López Martínez, Ana María Martínez Soto, Patricia Muñoz García, Irene Martínez Aparicio, and Alexandra Muñoz Lupu.

His proposal consists of an application for mobile devices that informs users about restrictions and prohibitions related to the air quality that exists in the destination cities.

The winners have received the award in an act that has counted with the participation of the Councilor for Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, along with representatives of the other entities involved in the celebration of Internet Day: University of Murcia, College of Computer Engineers, College of Technical Engineers in Computing, General Directorate of Information Technology of the CARM, UCAM, Talent Stem and Integra Foundation.

They have been finalists in the Coco Team, Femininjas and Dreamets contest.

All teams have worked for 12 weeks, with the help of Talent Stem, to develop projects that contribute to solving the Sustainable Development Goals promoted by the United Nations.

Ground zero technology

Since this 'zero zone' of new technologies was launched in Murcia, in the morning of yesterday, until its closure, thousands of people have approached the Plaza Circular to test the drone piloting, artificial intelligence , 3D glasses to immerse yourself in virtual reality, online videogames or play parties, among many other possibilities.

Among them, a 'Scape room' -one of the main novelties of this edition-, robotics workshops, simulation games of PC construction or programming for children,

In addition to these recreational and leisure activities, there has also been time for training.

Thus, there have been talks given by experts in the field, both UMU and UCAM and the City of Murcia.

Some of the most interesting interventions dealt with the need to raise awareness about the digital divide and the responsible use of new technologies, the internet of things, the proper use of social networks, privacy protection or STEM talent.

A consolidated event

José Guillén has shown his satisfaction for the 'wide participation of Murcia in the activities and workshops, making it clear that new technologies are still a sector of great interest that still has much room to discover'.

Guillén, who has made a very positive balance of these two days, as happened in previous editions, "expressed his conviction that it is' an event consolidated and demanded by Murcia, which should continue to be part of the calendar of acts that are organized every year in the city.
