Students of Fine Arts of the UMU will paint rooms of the Arrixaca destined to patients with cancer (16/05/2019)

The University of Murcia and the Ministry of Health have signed the agreement that allows the project 'Pinta esperanza' to be developed by which students from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UMU will decorate the rooms of the Hospital Universitario Virgen de la Arrixaca, designed to brachytherapy treatments for cancer patients.

José Luján, rector of the University of Murcia, and Asensio López Santiago, have been responsible for initialling this agreement, in an act that took place in the office of the rector, in Convalecencia.

Asensio López highlighted the importance of this activity to improve the mood of oncological patients admitted for treatment.

In addition, for the managing director the other positive effect is that this change in the environment can cause SMS workers who serve them.

The rector, meanwhile, has expressed the satisfaction of the University of Murcia for being able to contribute to this purpose and help patients in a complicated situation thanks to artistic creation.

Twenty projects were submitted to the contest and the three winners will decorate the walls, floors and ceilings of the rooms to convey a message of optimism to cancer patients.

The chosen projects are those of Judith Ibáñez, Emilio Iglesias;

and the joint project of Lorena Cabrera and Rocío Caballero.
