The UMU brings the Refugium project to the Mucho Más Mayo festival (15/05/2019)

The Department of Sociology of the University of Murcia (UMU) will be present between 10 and 21 May in the X edition of the Emerging Art Festival Much More May in Cartagena.

The institution will be represented through the Erasmus + Refugium project, an initiative that seeks to raise awareness of the situation of people seeking refuge in Europe and is based on the conviction that universities have a relevant role in the inclusion of refugees through its research, training, extension and dissemination actions.

Likewise, a conference has been organized to be held on Thursday, May 16 at 7:30 pm at the Pedreño Palace under the title 'Hospitality and barbarism.

Europe before the new Ulysses', given by Javier de Lucas, Professor of Philosophy of Law and Political Philosophy at the Human Rights Institute of the University of Valencia.

The talk will be presented by Natalia Moraes, general academic coordinator of the Refugium Project and professor of Sociology at the UMU.

The general program of the Festival for all citizens includes the participation of two specific audiences: secondary education centers, with the cycle 'Art at the Center';

and the neighbors of neighborhoods characterized by their great diversity through the 'Neighborhood Program'.

The whole of the agenda of Mucho Más Mayo includes proposals that range from the performing arts, music, photography, film, performance or street art.

This initiative, considered a benchmark in the culture and public art of the country, invites artists, public and citizens to reflect on concepts such as alterity, human diversity and, in general, on the construction of a culture of welcome in a moment especially conjunctural for European societies.

This event is promoted by the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena.
