A vertical dance show on the facade of the Moneo to raise awareness among Murcians about recycling (15/05/2019)

The choreographies, lights, projections of texts and images and music, designed exclusively for this day, can be seen on Friday and Saturday at 9.30 and 10.40 pm.

It will be the culmination of the activities scheduled for the World Recycling Day, in which Plaza Belluga will host different activities, with an interactive space and workshops.

From 2000 to 2018, Murcia has gone from recycling 4.1 million kilos of glass, packaging and paper to 20.5 last year and in 2019 the trend continues, with an increase of 8% compared to the same period of the previous year.

This year, the message of awareness that accompanies the World Recycling Day will be of great height.

Among the activities prepared by the City of Murcia and Ferrovial Services for this day, which takes place on Friday, May 17, occupies a relevant place the vertical dance show that will take place on the facade of the Annex Building designed exclusively for this day.

This will be the culmination of a party that will have begun at 7 pm at Plaza Belluga, whose contents have been explained today by the Councilor for Infrastructure, Public Works and Services, Rebeca Pérez, and the manager of Ferrovial Servicios Murcia, Antonio Igualada.

It is a program prepared with the objective of remembering the need to follow the 3 Rs rule: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

To do this, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., different awareness activities will be carried out in the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga, while the youngest children will learn to correctly recognize and separate the waste in a fun and entertaining way.

Interactive space

An interactive space 'No Plastic' will be created that will be filled and composing with the plastic that the participants deposit.

In this way, attendees will appreciate the importance of reducing the use of plastics and always recycle correctly.

Workshops

- Dreamcatcher workshop with recycled material: This activity will teach the little ones to reuse waste or products that can be found in any home to create their own dream catcher and can take it home as a reminder of the celebration of World Recycling Day.

This action will teach them to reuse the elements of the home to give them a second life and thus reduce waste and consumption.

In addition, through these activities, the artistic and creative attitudes of children will be motivated.

- Workshop of cultivation and customization of flowerpots with recycled bottles: Attendees can get in direct contact with the land and grow their own fruits and vegetables or summer flowers, thus transmitting the value of recycling, reuse and consumption of seasonal products and Km 0.

- Creation of collaborative structure: The use of plastics in everyday life is very high, and it is important to be aware of its correct recycling.

To do this, an artistic structure will be installed with which it will be possible to increase social awareness by making visible the amount of plastics we are collecting.

The collected volume will be signaled with messages and later they will be taken to the CTR of Cañada Hermosa for its correct recycling.

The treatment center of Cañada Hermosa has the latest technologies to enable a model recovery at European level since it allows to close the cycle from separation in homes to final recycling.

- Vertical Dance Show: As a culmination to the party, on Friday and Saturday will take place a vertical dance show designed exclusively for this day in which through choreography, lights, projections of texts and images and music is intended to raise awareness about the importance of recycling and circular economy for the care of the environment

On Friday and Saturday there will be 4 passes of 25 minutes each, at 9.30 and 22.40.

Five artists specialized in acrobatic dance of the SUBCIELO company and 6 musicians from Murcia will perform in the show.

Murcians recycle more

From 2000 to 2018, recycling figures have increased by 390%, from 4,192,934 kilos of glass, containers and paper in 2000, to 20,537,550 kilos last year.

This year the positive trend continues with 7,283,710 kg collected between January and April, which is 8.09% more than the same period of the previous year.

In the yellow container, intended for light packaging, the contribution of waste increased from 18,980 kilograms obtained in 2000 to 6,244,860 kilograms deposited in 2018. In the first months of this 2019, the increase continues, standing at 9.17 %.

In the blue container, made of paper and cardboard, in these 18 years it has gone from 2,075,061 kilos to 7,586,450, while in the first months of 2019 it has increased by 8.33%.

In the green container, glass containers, Murcia last year recycled 6,706,240 kilograms, a considerable amount since in 2000 1,898,893 were collected.

In the first months of 2019 the increase remains with 6.91%.

'Although the trend year after year is positive and thanks to the various education and information campaigns Murcia is increasingly aware, we can not lose sight of the objectives imposed by the European Union in terms of waste management and recycling', explained Rebeca Pérez, who appealed to the need to 'move towards a circular economy, closing the life cycle of products, from production and consumption to waste management, so that society and economy are more sustainable and respectful of the environment'.

The objectives when increasing the reuse and recycling of municipal waste are:

In addition, member states of the European Union will establish, before January 1, 2025, a separate collection of textiles and hazardous waste from households and ensure, before December 31, 2023, the separate collection of organic waste or its recycling at source.

This adds to the separate collection that already exists for paper and cardboard, glass, metals and plastic.
