Azul en Acción achieves the literacy of 50 women and provides school supplies to 600 children from rural communities in Morocco (13/05/2019)

The integral promotion of women and the support for the schooling of girls and boys in rural communities has focused the project of international cooperation for development that has been carried out by the Ongd Azul en Acción in Morocco between April 18 and 30, whose Results have been released today by the councilors of Social Rights and Development Cooperation and Traffic, Security and Citizen Protection, Conchita Ruiz and Lola Sánchez, respectively, and the President of Azul En Acción, Jesús Franco Vicente.

In these areas of the High Atlas and south of the country women have great problems to develop and achieve social integration as would correspond to the important role they play.

Despite being the fundamental pillar in the family, supporting the responsibility of the home, the care of the children and the agricultural and livestock work that sustains their economies, they do not obtain recognition and integration in society and are relegated to the background in front of man.

It is for this reason that Azul en Acción, with the support of the City of Murcia, has been working with women's groups in these areas for more than 10 years, developing initiatives and projects based on literacy, occupational training, support for initiatives entrepreneurs, promoting associations and valuing local resources, mainly based on crafts, with the aim of empowering women, not only socially, but also in the family.

This year, the NGO has continued with the literacy program with a group of more than 50 women, who after their participation are already able to read, write and perform basic mathematical operations.

In addition, formative and informative actions on first aid and gynecological diseases have been carried out and they have been given support for the edition of a book of recipes that they themselves have made and which they will market in local associations.

It has also financed the start-up of a store where women can market artisan products that they themselves make and thus earn an income.

This year 2019 have participated in the activities promoted by Azul en Acción, more than 70 women of different ages, from 16 to 70 years.

Fight against school absenteeism

As for the girls and boys of these communities, they have serious difficulties in schooling and the rates of school absenteeism are overwhelming, because they have to carry out work such as carrying water, collecting, grazing, etc.

and they do not have access to such basic learning things as notebooks, pencils, pencil sharpeners, rubber bands, etc.

and others as necessary as shoes and clothes.

Azul en Acción supplies children with school materials, clothing and footwear, and carries out preventive programs based on raising families' awareness of the need for girls and boys to attend schools.

In 2019 Blue in Action, has provided school equipment to more than 600 girls and boys, also leaving material for collective use to 12 schools, and has donated clothing and footwear to a large number of children and adolescents.

New campaign in Senegal

On the other hand, last week, Ong Azul en Acción, has signed agreements with the Ministry of Health of Senegal and the Departmental Hospital of Mbour (Senegal) to carry out next October a new campaign in ophthalmology or optical approach to the most vulnerable population of the region of Thies, within the framework of a global program that this ongd in collaboration with the City of Murcia, the Autonomous Community and other public and private entities, has been developing since 2007 in countries with low development index.

In this campaign of 2019 is planned to serve more than 3,500 people with eye problems, perform 380 surgeries of diseases such as cataract or glaucoma that cause disabling blindness, perform more than 1,000 vision graduations and donate corrective glasses, especially to the population childish.

It is also planned to continue with the training of local professionals in consultation techniques and eye surgery and as a novelty for this year a training and training program will be launched for key agents to intervene in the prevention of eye diseases.

In this project, the group of women is especially favored given that its planning includes a strong gender component in the criteria and protocols for selecting the beneficiary population.
