Podemos Equo: "Wanting to Murcia is respecting its history and taking care with honors what our ancestors left us" (12/05/2019)

Members of the Podemos Equo candidacy for the City of Murcia have enjoyed a route of just over four kilometers to learn in depth archaeological remains of the Roman and Iberian eras.

The route, which has counted on the presence of about thirty people, has shown the scant respect for the heritage of certain places, which dies forgotten and degraded.

At 9.30 in the morning, the expedition headed by the mayoral candidate of Murcia by Podemos Equo, Ginés Ruiz Maciá, as well as other members of the list, entered the well-known Martyrium de La Alberca, a unique place in Spain and of which in Europe there are only three places of similar value.

It is the remains of four burials that were discovered in the early years of the twentieth century and that remain, although under lock and key, surrounded by weeds and with a barely visible sign that hides under graffiti and painted.

"I feel really surprised that a place of this beauty and this value remains here, hidden, abandoned, with little promotion and with such minimal care that hardly notice," said the candidate.

So little known is the place that during the visit a couple in the area has asked permission to enter and thanked the expedition because "we have been going ahead for thirty years and we have never been able to know what was inside".

In that sense, Ruiz Maciá said that a "plan to protect and promote the heritage and history of Murcia is crucial, because wanting to Murcia does not consist of filling it with flowers twice a year, to love Murcia is to respect its history and care with honors what our ancestors left us. "

The route has continued along the southern coast, from the Martyrium to the Sanctuary of the Fuensanta, passing by the Castle and the Sanctuary of Light, two jewels of the Iberian period that also "languish under the neglect and forgetfulness".

During the four kilometers that have traveled from one point to another, the members of the expedition have not only been able to verify the level of affluence that resists the area, "an ideal place to spend with family and friends enjoying nature", also the abandonment of the place, full of garbage and remains of the presence of man.

"It is urgent to give the place a more historical and cultural perspective, because we have remains that others would fight to have just ten kilometers from Murcia and we pass them by and let them lose".

For the candidate it is urgent to protect and take care of the history of Murcia, putting in value the historical and patrimonial elements.

"When we get to the Glorieta we will establish a plan of respect for our history, executing what we can in a way

direct or urging other administrations to comply with their obligation in those places where we do not have the competences. "

The mayoral candidate for Podemos-Equo has expressed concern about "this way they have had from the PP to love Murcia, destroying its garden, forgetting its history and slamming a large part of the legacy that other civilizations left engraved on this place".

For this reason, Ginés Ruiz Maciá recalled that "to love Murcia and Murcia and Murcia is not to sell to the highest bidder but to preserve it from those who seek its destruction and protecting it as a son is protected, with all our weapons in front".
