Huermur denounces the collapse of part of the Real Fábrica de la Pólvora (09/05/2019)

Huermur calls for urgent conservation measures, as well as the placement of a fence that protects the construction and pedestrians in the area, in addition to placing a scaffold to immediately start the measures of protection and conservation of the property.

The entity has been denouncing years the degradation of this industrial construction protected in the PECHA of Murcia, and demanding the City Council to execute subsidiary measures planned since 2016, which have not been launched.

In recent weeks there has been a partial collapse of the roof of the central building of the "Royal National Factory of Saltpeter", centennial construction that has suffered significant degradation in recent years, accelerated by subsidence, cracks, moisture and landslides.

The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and the Heritage of Murcia (Huermur), has denounced the collapse that has occurred recently on the roofs of the Royal Powder Factory, in Asciclo Díaz, and that keeps on alert the residents of the area in the historic center of the city of Murcia.

Huermur has been claiming conservation and protection measures for this building for several years, whose main area has the protection of the PECHA, the Special Plan of the Historic Center of Murcia.

The entity is located in the file that since 2016 is processed in the Department of Urbanism, and despite that since that year are ordered protective measures, have not been launched.

The collective recalls that this historic property was created by a Royal Order of Philip IV in 1637, being the only factory that during the War of Independence supplied ammunition to the guerrillas who fought against the French.

The conservation organization denounces the risk posed by this situation, liked with a large collapse that has occurred in recent weeks, affecting a significant part of the roof of the main and historic construction, which is also the protected area.

Similarly, Huermur highlights the danger for neighbors, pedestrians and tourists, in an area in which there is the City Museum, the convent of the Agustinas, the Bullfighting Museum and the Salitre Garden, frequented by children and families.

For this association, they must immediately address the urgent measures that have been waiting for years in a drawer of the Department of Urbanism, delimiting the perimeter of the building, propping up facades and plants, placing scaffolding and installing protective elements so that, in case of rains, water is not dammed on roofs or floors, besides avoiding humidity for beams and slabs.

Huermur has made public several videos and photographs, within the framework of the Plan PatrimurSOS, which show the state of this construction, warning of the risk posed by their situation, and demanding both the City of Murcia and the Ministry of Culture, both administrations with powers in matters of Historical Heritage, that confront this situation and carry out all the necessary subsidiary measures for the preventive conservation of the "Real Fábrica Nacional de Salitres" of Murcia.
