The Municipal Archive launches a more agile, more accessible website with more digitized funds (01/05/2019)

The Municipal Archive has released a new format of its web page more accessible and with a more agile navigation maintaining its sections.

So, from now on, and thanks to the adaptable web design, the web can be consulted both from computers and from tablets and mobile phones.

Parallel to this new web design, it has also been decided to redesign the 'Pandora' query program to incorporate digital backgrounds of all the sections: File, Library, Photographs, Posters, Brochures ... In this way the user has of a single search engine that will allow you to access directly to the digital fund that currently has the Municipal Archive of Murcia.

Among the novelties that are offered, is the digitization of part of the collection of party leaflets of Murcia.

Thus, from today you can consult 209 brochures of the festivities of Murcia, Holy Week, April Festivities and Murcia Fair covering a period of 70 years of history (1877-1947).

Thus, the oldest document is the one that reproduces the Testament of the Sardine of Ricardo Sánchez Madrigal dated in Murcia on February 12, 1877. All this has been possible thanks to a grant granted by the Ministry of Culture to the Municipal Archive that has supposed the incorporation of nearly 50,000 digital objects, including press, brochures and books, for researchers and other interested parties to enjoy.

On the other hand, throughout these years numerous documents of the archival archive have been reproduced, which are already available online, among which all the books of Real Cartulares of the XVII century stand out;

Books Manuscripts of Series 3, one of which "Delimitation of terms, Municipality of Murcia" of 1554;

47 new books of Butler of century XVI (books of accounts of the City council);

13 old plans such as the "Map of Sewer Amojonamiento" of 1728, or the "Plano de la Plaza de Camachos" by Jaime Bort of 1742;

as well as the incorporation of a large part of the series of Birth Records (1841 to 1872) and Deaths (1841 to 1869), which will soon be completed with the series of Marriages of these same years.

All this has meant an increase of about 100,000 new images only in the Archive section.

It must be remembered that on March 25, 2011 the Municipal Archive of Murcia opened to the world with the launch of its website, to offer, at that time, more than half a million pages of press, books and documents digitized to that moment.

In recent years, the great bet of the Municipal Archive of Murcia has been the digitization in successive phases of its funds, digitalization that began in 2002 with the reproduction of the historical press, a very significant section and highly demanded by researchers and citizens.

Three years later, in 2005, and within the framework of the Crimson Project, through agreements with the Autonomous Community of Murcia, more than 150,000 digitized pages corresponding to all the medieval documents kept in the Archive were incorporated.

Likewise, the Archive has participated, since 2008, in cooperative projects with the Ministry of Culture through agreements and subsidies, which have allowed the digitization of a large part of the bibliographic fund that is held here, and thus enabling its dissemination through the national repository of Hispana digital collections, and allowing its expansion by participating in the collaborative project Europeana, a common point of multilingual access to European cultural heritage.

In short, the Municipal Archive of Murcia continues, one more year, strengthening its strategy of dissemination and protection of bibliographic and documentary heritage through digitalization and its accessibility online, contributing to the transmission of our valuable legacy.
