The XXXI Spanish Film Week of Mula and the XXVI National Short Film Competition are presented at the UMU Rectorate (11/04/2019)

Organized by the Cine-Club Segundo de Chomón, and with the sponsorship and collaboration of the municipality of Mula and the University of Murcia, once again the town of Mula hosts, from April 28 to May 4, the XXXI Film Week Spanish and the XXVI National Short Film Competition.

For a week, the festival will offer different film screenings, contests and tributes through which Spanish cinema will be brought to the entire Muleña society and visitors.

The Lope de Vega Theater will be the main stage of the week, and Mula will once again bring together well-known faces, as well as some of the best short filmmakers on the national scene.

During the presentation, Pascual Vera, head of the Communication Service of the UMU, stressed that the film festival will pay a special tribute this year to the actor Manuel Zarzo, a prominent actor with more than 120 films under his belt and a long career in the theater and television.

Zarzo, from his father, will visit Mula on the occasion of the closing of the Spanish Film Week next Saturday, May 4th.

Martín del Toro, president of the Cine-Club Segundo de Chomón, has explained all the activities that are part of this initiative.

The section 'Current affairs' will include some of the latest titles released on the country's screens, such as '70 Binladens' or' Dolor y Gloria ', the return of Pedro Almodóvar after three years.

There will also be a section for professionals who have dedicated their lives to cinema, with a reminder to actors such as Álvaro de Luna (the carob from 'Curro Jiménez'), Cesáreo Estébanez (sergeant Romerales from the series 'Farmacia de guardia'), the director Jordi Grau or the figurine player Ivonne Blake, winner of four Goyas and an Oscar for his film 'Nicolás y Alejandra'.

Mula Film Week this year includes a special section to the so-called Third Way of Spanish cinema, an attempt to make a worthy and quality cinema, emerged at the beginning of the 70s, section of the most popular cinema and the cryptic cinema of other filmmakers that began to emerge in those years.

His muse was María Luisa San José, a very popular actress in the 70s and 80s, who has become one of the most frequent faces of the festival.

The Week includes other activities, such as the preview of 'I leave it when I want', by Carlos Theron, as well as the VIII Cinema Research and Creation Contest aimed at students of Secondary Education in the Region of Murcia and Youth Associations.

The National Short Film Competition has counted in this edition with a total of 200 shorts from all over the national geography.

The winner will be announced at the gala next May 4th.

Martín del Toro has closed his speech expressing that this initiative is a key activity for the dissemination and defense of our cinema, and has called on institutions to continue participating in it "so that it can continue with work that has lasted for three decades" and which he considers absolutely necessary.

The author of the poster illustrator of this XXXI Spanish Film Week of Mula is the work of the Valencian artist Nacho Murillo, who explained that "it is a colorful poster where I tried to synthesize the colors of Mula: the ocher, usual in the facades baroque of the locality, the red one, symbol of the passion with which this event is organized, and the blue of the sky of Mula ".

For his part, Jesús Moreno, Mayor of Mula, has emphasized the importance of administrations betting on culture and art.

"In that, Mula is an example, and it shows that this year this activity is already 31 years old," he said.

The event was closed by Francisco Javier Martínez, Vice Chancellor for Quality, Culture and Communication of the UMU, who has been proud that this cultural activity has a long history.

He stressed, finally, that "culture can not be neglected" and that "it is the university's obligation to form and investigate, but also to preserve and disseminate culture".
