The Molinos del Río exhibit the work of Juan Navarro, architect of the remodeling of this cultural center 30 years ago (10/04/2019)

The artist Juan Navarro Baldeweg, architect director of the refurbishment of Molinos del Río in the 80s, returns to Murcia with his work to celebrate the thirty years of the inauguration of the Molinos del Río as a hydraulic museum.

The Mayor José Ballesta, accompanied by the Councilor for Economic Promotion, Culture and European Programs, Jesús Pacheco, attended this afternoon the opening of the exhibition 'In light and water' that brings together works of painting, sculpture and photography of this artist.

Thus, the space that he created now houses his pieces, achieving a unique language

Visitors will be able to see, until June 11, large format pictures, 2x2 meters, wooden sculptures and other materials and photographs exhibited in Venice last year.

In addition you can see some images of the empty museum building, made in the 80s.

During the years 1984 to 1988 the restoration works that gave rise to the new museum that celebrates thirty years this spring- since it was inaugurated on April 18, 1989- and that has collected countless exhibitions and different cultural events throughout of these years.

In 1988, in November, the building was awarded the First Restoration-Rehabilitation Award to the Hydraulic Museum Molinos del río Segura by the architect Juan Navarro Baldweg of the General Directorate of Urban Planning and Terrirorial Planning of the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Public Works of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia.

Juan Navarro (Santander, 1939), studied engraving at the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid and Architecture at the Technical School of Architecture in Madrid, in addition to pursuing a scholarship at the Fundación Juan March, Center for Advanced Visual Studies, MIT.

Between his prizes and distinctions stand out the following:

1990 National Prize of Plastic Arts.

1998 Gold Medal Heinrich Tessenow 1998

2000 Academician elected from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Madrid.

Tribute to Juan Navarro Baldeweg at ARPAfil 2000, XIV International Book Fair of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

2001 Honorary Fellow of The American Institute of Architects.

2003 Full-time academic of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando.

2005 Villa de Madrid Prizes 2005. "Mariano Benlliure" Sculpture Prize to Juan Navarro Baldeweg for the Sculptures exhibition held at the Marlborough Gallery, Madrid.

2007 Gold Medal for Merit of the Fine Arts 2007

2008 Gold Medal of Architecture, Superior Council of Architects of Spain, 2008.

2009 X Biennial Spanish Architecture Award.

2010 III Honorable Mention "Juan de Herrera", College of Architects of Cantabria.

2011 Prize "Discovering the Art" Architectural Intervention, Madrid.

I ACHE Engineering Awards.

Prize in the building category as a designer for the Teatros del Canal.

2012 Prize to the Professional Trajectory.

VIII Ibero-American Architecture and Urbanism Biennial.

Tomás Francisco Prieto Award in recognition of his professional and human career granted by the Real Casa del Moneda.

Collegiate of Honor of the Official College of Architects of Cádiz.

2013 Prize XII Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism by the Hertziana Library in Rome.

2014 Silver Medal of the City of Santander.

National Prize of Italian Architecture IN / ARCH and ANCE by the Hertziana Library in Rome.

Prize of contemporary architecture in Lazio by the Hertzian Library of Rome.

National Architecture Award in recognition of the professional career granted by the Minsiterio de Fomento of the Government of Spain.

Medal of Honor from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
