On Saturday, the Clean River Challenge is celebrated for the second time, coinciding on the 7th with World Health Day and April 22 with the International Day of Mother Earth.
In this event, hundreds of volunteers, who on skates, in boats and on foot, will collect waste in the Segura River and will raise awareness about the importance of keeping our environment clean, for our health, and ultimately for our planet.
The Department of Infrastructure, Works and Services directs Rebeca Pérez, in collaboration with the concessionaire Ferrovial Servicios and the association Región de Murcia Limpia, have organized the Clean River Challenge, an activity in which different associations and volunteers participate to carry out a cleaning in the Segura River, from the garden of the Cuatro Piedras to the Paseo del Malecón and from La Fica to the purification plant of Llano de Brujas.
The event will begin at 9:30 am at the meeting point of volunteers, at the Plaza de la Cruz Roja, and at 10:00 hours the Segura River will begin cleaning.
At 13:00 there will be activities for children with Drilo and Lili teach you to recycle and at 14:00 a party will be held for all participants with a musical performance by Bosco and free tasting of paella.
"When you participate in volunteering activities, you become more aware of the care of the environment." This event is an example for all citizens, represents the effort, collaboration and commitment of all Murcia to keep our environment in perfect condition. that families, and society in general, educate on the importance of the reduction of garbage and the selective collection of waste for subsequent recycling, "said Rebeca Pérez.
The cleaning will be carried out along both banks of the riverbed organized by groups of 15 volunteers guided by a person in charge, who will be trained in environmental care, recycling in the municipality of Murcia and organization of teams.
The person in charge of each team will be in charge of writing down the waste that is collected to measure the quantities and recycling it according to the material.
A kit with bags of the four colors of recycling, cap, badge, gloves, bracelet and water bottle will be delivered.
The cleaning will also be done from the river, with the collaboration of 'Tío de la Barca', which will make available to the event 10 boats in which three volunteers will go, in each, directed by their manager.
In addition, the Department of Modernization of Urban Administration and Development will support some tasks of clearing and pruning of trees.
Also from the Department of Traffic and Public Safety through Fire and Civil Protection will make available a preventive catch of the river with a boat.
This initiative will have the Patinar association in Murcia that will be in charge of the logistical support for what the volunteers may need along the whole route.
Estrella Levante and Animal Sound will also be present, who will collaborate in the realization of the event.
From Murcia Clean is intended to promote the idea that citizens combine physical exercise with waste collection as is done in other cities around the world.
Information on the waste that has been collected can be sent to the Marnoba project of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment and the international Ocean platform.
