The International Dance Day is celebrated on April 29 from 1982. It was declared by Unesco, as an initiative of the International Dance Committee, which belongs to the International Theater Institute.

This particular day was chosen to commemorate the birth of the dancer and French ballet teacher Jean-Georges Noverre, who is known as the father of modern ballet.

Noverre debuted at the court of Louis XV, was part of the Ballet Company of the Comic Opera of Paris and was appointed by Marie Antoinette as dance teacher of the court of Paris.

In addition, through his work, he made sure that dance was seen not only as a form of entertainment, but as an art form an independent discipline
