The rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján Alcaraz, and the regional president of the Red Cross in the Region of Murcia, Faustino Herrero, have signed on Tuesday the bases on which the traditional relationship of cooperation maintained by the two institutions from the year 2003, when the first collaboration agreement was signed to promote the exchange of experiences and personnel in the fields of teaching and research, social welfare and culture in general.
In this sense, the two entities have agreed to promote solidarity actions and social welfare promotion, as well as assistance projects, with special attention to people and groups in situations of vulnerability and difficulty in their social integration process.
For this, the University of Murcia will participate actively in projects designed by the Spanish Red Cross aimed at favoring the most disadvantaged people and groups, as well as research and development programs and projects.
In the same way, mechanisms of advice and mutual exchange of information will be put in place, bringing closer to the university community the challenges that humanity has, reflected in the challenges set by the UN, for the fulfillment of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
In addition, the people employed in the UMU will be able to perform volunteer work and initiatives will be established in order to provide technological solutions to the great challenges of our days, both social and health, food security or climate change.
In this order of things, training actions will be launched and research and teaching materials will be developed, developing experiences and joint projects in the field of volunteering, aimed at people who are in a situation of vulnerability.
In this sense, special attention will be given to the development of projects and experiences in the field of International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid, as well as programs and projects aimed at labor insertion, as a fundamental tool in the social insertion of people in a situation of vulnerability.
The president of the Spanish Red Cross in the Region of Murcia said "the pride of maintaining such a close relationship and for so many years with the University of Murcia" while expressing his conviction that "this document that we sign will not entail a limit on our relationship, if not the opposite, that establishes the bases for a complete interaction between us, that allows us to optimize our efforts towards a common goal, such as social welfare in a fairer world for all people and living beings it's conformed".
The event has been closed by the Rector Luján, who has emphasized the commitment of the University of Murcia to open up to the society in which he lives, "not only through research and the transfer of knowledge, but also collaborating in helping towards the most vulnerable people. "
Therefore, "we have the firm intention to strengthen ties and strengthen actions with third sector organizations committed to a better future and, in that bet, necessarily Red Cross appears as a strategic and main ally".
