The University of Murcia opens an organic fruit and vegetable store in the Espinardo Campus (02/04/2019)

The University of Murcia has opened an establishment for the sale of organic products and proximity in order to promote healthy and sustainable nutrition among the university community.

The place is located opposite the faculty of Veterinary and next to the Green Walk of the Espinardo campus.

The initiative has been possible thanks to an agreement between the University of Murcia and the association 'Observatory of Agroecological Innovation in the face of Climate Change', responsible for the project 'Alimentado el campus de Sostenible y Saludable'.

Within the diversity of organic products offered by the store, most are seasonal fruits and vegetables from the Region of Murcia.

The benefits of the sales will be managed by the observatory to finance agroecology and climate change projects.

The opening hours are from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 3 pm, and also on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4 pm to 7 pm.

It is also possible to make orders at home with an additional cost of 4 euros or for free for amounts equal to or greater than 40 euros.

In the project, which is funded by the Directorate General of European Funds and Rural Development of the CARM, members of the Department of Plant Biology and the Department of Food Technology Nutrition and Bromatology of the UMU, as well as the Service of Agricultural Experimentation, from the Veterinary Farm and from the Technical Unit.

It is an action in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the UN 2030 Agenda (ODS), which represents a commitment to the sustainability of the agri-food system and a commitment to agricultural biodiversity and the mitigation of climate change.
