Iberdrola Distribución Eléctrica joins, as a technological partner, the Smart City project of the Murcia City Council (24/03/2019)

The agreement does not entail economic commitment for any of the parties and will be valid for a period of two years extendable

This initiative allows incorporating the perspective and information of the electrical distribution network to the development and implementation of the Murcia SmartCity model, which the City of Murcia deploys through the MiMurcia platform, obtaining a multitude of benefits and improving the day to day of the neighbors

The City of Murcia, through the Department of Modernization of Urban Management and Development led by José Guillén and Iberdrola Distribución Eléctrica will carry out joint actions, after the Governing Board approved the agreement on Friday, on energy efficiency , electric mobility, energy saving and sustainable consumption in Murcia.

This agreement will allow Murcia City Council and Iberdrola to develop and implement a 'Smart City' model for the city of Murcia, in which Iberdrola joins as a technological partner to promote the project, providing the knowledge and information of its electricity network. distribution to take advantage of all the data produced by the city in its daily operation, favoring its sustainable development and greater efficiency in the use of its resources.

This initiative allows incorporating the perspective and information of the electrical distribution network to the development and implementation of the Murcia SmartCity model, which the City of Murcia deploys through the MiMurcia platform, obtaining a multitude of benefits and improving the day to day of the neighbors.

The agreement does not entail economic commitment for any of the parties and will be valid for a period of two years from its signature, and may be extended for an equal period if agreed upon before its expiration.

In the municipality of Murcia, the company has deployed more than 214,000 smart meters, which are integrated into an advanced system for contracting, measuring and billing the electricity supply.

This initiative reaches the telemanagement of its 2,860 low voltage transformation centers, of which 288 also have network supervision and 274 have been automated, making Murcia a smarter city.

Four strategic areas for a smart city

The deployment of Iberdrola's intelligent electricity network will allow incorporating the 'neuronal trace' of the network to offer a better service to the citizen.

The work will focus on the four strategic areas for an intelligent city.

In terms of mobility, Iberdrola Distribución will make available to the City of Murcia its knowledge of electricity networks to promote a plan for the deployment of efficient and economic charging points, accessible to all its citizens.

In infrastructures, the development, innovation and digitalization of networks will be promoted, which will allow us to continue improving in those aspects that intervene in the quality of supply and attention to citizens.

In energy, it will move forward in the search for sustainable and efficient energy solutions for the municipality, using the most advanced techniques to reduce the energy costs of the city.

In culture, through information technologies, data from the distribution network related to consumption, integration of renewables and electric mobility penetration will be provided to help in optimal management and contribute to citizen awareness.

Murcia SmartCity

The city of Murcia has defined a Murcia 2020 City Strategy and a Murcia Smart City Strategic Plan (Smart Murcia) that set a medium-term journey of how to make Murcia smarter, more sustainable and friendly.

The objective is the implementation of an integrative management model that optimizes the different municipal services and resources, orienting each and every one of the areas towards the 'smart' model, so that the citizen does not conceive a network of watertight and independent services, but an open, interconnected, close and agile City Council, geared to your daily needs.

In this sense, in addition to the MiMurcia project as a core element in the development of an intelligent city platform, other initiatives have been launched, such as the creation of the Single Monitoring Center (CEUS), which is a differentiating and innovative element of the project. Smart Murcia and will be located in the municipal building of Abenarabi Avenue.
