About 500 students are excited about the new technologies (22/03/2019)

Belonging to middle education centers in the Region, they have participated in the conference held at the UCAM, within the framework of SICARM

The exhibitions of e-sports and drones have been the acts that have aroused most interest among the young attendees

Awaken technological vocations.

This has been the objective of the UCAM Teleco Day that has been held today by the Catholic University of Murcia, through its Degree in Telecommunications Systems Engineering.

In the act have participated about 500 high school students from different centers of the Region - Educational Center Los Olivos (La Alcayna), San Jose (Espinardo), Maristas La Merced (Murcia), San Buenaventura Capuchinos (Murcia), San Vicente de Paúl (El Palmar) Montepinar, IES Ricardo Ortega (Fuente Álamo), Our Lady of Carmen-Carmelitas (La Unión) and San Vicente de Paúl (Cartagena) - who have known first-hand, through lectures and workshops, the great application of technologies in today's society.

In addition, they have attended an exhibition of the DigiCan System in collaboration with the Club Agility Murcia.

Rafael Melendreras, Vice Dean of the Degree in Telecommunications of the UCAM has welcomed the participating students, accompanied by Juan José Almela, General Director of Information Technology, Heritage and Telecommunications of the CARM, and Belén López, vice-rector of Virtual Teaching of the University.

For his part, Antonio Pita Lozano, responsible for Luca Consulting & Analytics at Telefónica-CDO, gave the inaugural lecture in which he spoke about the application of data science to sports.

The sector of Telecommunications and Information Technology- is an important training field and is currently in great demand by companies, which do not meet their demand given the lack of vocations in relation to these studies.

For this reason, through conferences like these "we want to make young people see the skills available in the world of technology and the applications they currently have." Studying Telecommunications or Computer Science is an option to consider in the face of future ", Rafael Melendreras assured.

He also noted that despite what you think, "an engineer of Teleco or IT does not always work in front of a computer programming, there are many applications, not only make phones, antennas, design satellites, but we are working with the world of medicine or sports, it is a very cross-sectional area ".

For his part, Juan José Almela, thanked the UCAM for holding events of this type that "allow these young people to know what is the future of technology and these professions." It is very important that children choose for their training a technological career because the future is assured through these ".
