The International Observatory of the Family created by the Vatican and based in the UCAM, is presented at the Theological Institute John Paul II (22/03/2019)

A delegation from the Catholic University of Murcia headed by its president José Luis Mendoza, presented yesterday in Rome the International Observatory for the Family, established by the Theological Institute John Paul II together with the International Center for Family Studies CISF and the UCAM.

Likewise, José Luis Mendoza recently participated in the General Assembly of the Pontifical Academy for Life, where he was able to maintain an affectionate greeting with His Holiness Pope Francis.

The International Observatory of the Family created by the Vatican, which will be based in the UCAM, was presented yesterday at the Pontifical Theological Institute John Paul II, based in Rome.

This new reality of the Church has as its main objective to seek a multidisciplinary reflection on the reality of the current family.

This new observation tool comes from the work of the Synod on the family and with the express blessing of Pope Francis, and is also the result of the agreements signed between the Pontifical Theological Institute John Paul II and the UCAM.

In this project, under the guidance of the UCAM, they participate in research institutions from the five continents: in Africa;

in Benin and Kenya, in Asia;

in Hong Kong and Qatar, also in countries of the American continent such as the USA, Argentina, Chile and Mexico;

and in Europe;

in Finland, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Spain and Italy, thus achieving an effective radiography of the current situation of the family, in order to be able to propose concrete answers to today's world.

The contribution that the UCAM offers to the activity of the Observatory, as a co-founding body, is the increase of the superior culture and the fuller promotion of the human person, the diffusion of scientific knowledge and the integral development of the members of the academic community.

In the presentation made in Rome, José Luis Mendoza stressed that it is "impossible to give life without having Christ present" and added that "young people need to know the mercy of God."

The president of the UCAM has remarked in reference to the Observatory that at the Catholic University of Murcia "we put the necessary resources to carry out this mission as a quality service".

Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, grand chancellor of the Pontifical Theological Institute John Paul II, and Pierangelo Sequeri, president of this Institute, also said that "with the Observatory we want to look with spiritual but also historical eyes at the conditions of all the families".

For his part, Francesco Belleti, director of the International Center for Family Studies (CISF) has stated that "poverty in families has a double pattern that concerns the economy on the one hand and a relocation in the relational sphere on the other. "

Pontifical Academy for Life

On the other hand, a few days ago José Luis Mendoza, participated in the General Assembly of the Pontifical Academy for Life as an academic of this institution, appointed for that purpose by His Holiness Pope Francis in the year 2017.

José Luis Mendoza with his wife María Dolores García was able to greet Pope Francisco in the framework of this meeting.

The president of the Catholic University is the only institutional representative of academic and university centers of this pontifical academy.
