430,000 euros for research and intervention in 17 archaeological and paleontological sites of the Region (20/03/2019)

A total of 17 archaeological and paleontological sites in the region will receive subsidies for a total amount of 429,964 euros, granted to research teams responsible for the interventions and the completion of studies of the deposits, according to sources from the regional government in a statement.

The Governing Council has been informed today of the final resolution of the subsidy granted by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture in competitive competition regime.

These teams are made up of Spanish universities, university foundations, research entities or public bodies.

The allocation criteria have taken into account the scientific interest of the project, the team's experience, the methodology and adaptation of the actions to the objectives, the planning and execution of the project, and the percentage of co-financing.

In this way, the University of Murcia will receive a total of 224.105 euros that will enable research and intervention in the archaeological park of Molinete in Cartagena (25,462 euros), the medieval Jewish quarter of Lorca (29,842 euros), the Roman villa of Huerto del Paturro located between Cartagena and La Unión (30,000 euros), paleolithic site of the cave of Arco in Cieza (30,000 euros), Iberian site of the ravine Ancho in Jumilla (30,000 euros), Roman spa of Fortuna (30,000 euros), Roman villa of Villaricos in Mula (30,000 euros) and the studies in the Abrigo de la Boja and Cueva Antón in Mula and Cueva de los Aviones in Cartagena (18,800 euros).

For its part, the Autonomous University of Barcelona will receive 60,000 euros to develop interdisciplinary programs of scientific analysis in the Argaric deposits of La Bastida in Totana and La Almoloya in Pliego.

Also, the Catalan Institute of Human Palaeoecology and Social Evolution Foundation of the Rovira Virgili University will carry out an intervention in the paleontological site of Quibas in Abanilla for which it will receive 26,100 euros.

Another of the recipients of the grant is the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), which will receive 30,000 euros for excavations in the Andalusian Almunia of Castillejo de Monteagudo, in Murcia.

As for non-profit research entities, they will receive a total of 89,759 euros.

Thus, the Cidaris Foundation will have 26,669 euros for the realization of a work field in the paleontological site of Cueva Victoria in Cartagena.

For its part, the Teatro Romano Foundation will obtain € 16,110 for the inventory, drawing and restoration of materials from the portico of the Roman Theater, also in Cartagena.

Another entity benefiting from this subsidy is the Bullas Wine Route Association, which will receive € 29,380 for intervention on the site of the Roman village of Los Cantos in Bullas.

Finally, the Association of Friends of Rock Art of the Mediterranean Arc will get 17,600 euros to expand the study of the registration and material culture of its Cave Art cavities of the Mediterranean arch in the Iberian Peninsula, included in the list of World Heritage of Unesco.
