157,000 families will benefit this year from the drop of up to 5.42% in the water bill (15/03/2019)

The Governing Board today approved the ordinance project, which contemplates a 45% reduction in the conservation of meters and reductions of the quota for families at risk of exclusion, single-parent or with a person with disabilities among its members.

Now it will be sent to the General Directorate of Commerce, Consumption and Administrative Simplification and subsequently it must be ratified by the Plenary, the last step for its entry into force.

The new water rates for 2019 enhance its social character, incorporating a 20% reduction for all families in the vital section, up to 5 m3, and giving special coverage to families at risk of exclusion, which will be subject to a reduction of 25% of the fixed water and sewerage fee, which may also be applied to the garbage rate.

In addition, the debt of customers subject to the social rate will be taken into account.

With the entry into force of the new prices, 4,000 families will be able to benefit from the reductions provided for by the social tariff.

Likewise, the meter conservation rate is cut by 45%.

This is included in the draft regulatory ordinance for fees for the provision of home water, sewerage and sanitation services and other services and activities provided in relation to the integral water cycle in the municipality of Murcia, approved today by the Government Board.

The most social water

In this way, the rates of a social nature foreseen for water and sewerage consumption for families at risk of exclusion will be reduced by 25%.

This percentage will also apply to the garbage rate, provided that the sum of all the income of the members that inhabit the house does not exceed the SMI.

The ordinance also addresses the amortization of the old debt for those who access the social rate.

It would be to amortize all the debt incurred by citizens who access the social tariff with an age of more than six months.

For the less than half a year, the circumstances of each person will be met but the supply cut will never be executed nor will legal actions be taken to recover it while the situation that gives the right to access the social rate lasts.

On the other hand, single-parent families or those with a disabled member who have a large family title despite being fewer than five members will be able to benefit from the reduced rate of housing with more than four members.

Finally, there will be an exemption of 100% of the fee for pouring water from the water table for users who meet the minimum conditions of discharge, one of the measures incorporated by the Citizen group with the approval of the Budgets.

First ordinance

This is the first time that tariffs have been approved as part of an ordinance, as a result of Law 9/2017 on Contracts of the Public Sector, which has introduced a series of modifications in the Spanish legal system that require adopting this ordinance for the purposes of to establish the proposal, approval and enforcement of the rates that must regulate the provision of the services of supply and sewerage of the municipality.

The Aguas de Murcia Board of Directors approved the price proposal last December, and now the City Council will transfer it to the CARM Pricing Commission, before submitting it to the Plenary.
