The University of Murcia has presented on Wednesday the 'Workshop of Historical Music' of the University of Murcia on the occasion of the European Day of Ancient Music in an act that has taken place in the Rectorate.

This initiative arises with the intention of bringing together all the activities and collaborations around ancient music in which the University of Murcia participates through the Culture Service.

As pointed out by Jorge Losana, director of the workshop, "the objective pursued is to disseminate and disseminate the knowledge of music composed from the Middle Ages to the emergence of sound recordings and recordings, with special emphasis on Renaissance music and Baroque interpreted with historically informed instruments and techniques. "

The 'Workshop of Historical Music' raises national and international collaborations with entities such as the European Federation of Early Music Festivals, the Collegia Ghislieri of Pavia (Italy), the CSIC, the Superior School of Music of Catalonia, the Higher Education Center Music from the Basque Country, the Complutense Institute of Musical Sciences, the Tomás Luis de Victoria Studies Center, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, the ISEN Institute of Cartagena, the city councils of Cartagena, Murcia, Totana, Aledo and Los Alcázares, the Early Association Music Project, the Conservatories of the Region and the Ministry of Culture of the Region of Murcia, among others.

The programmed activities are directed to the university community, as well as to the students of the music conservatories of the Region, to singers of choirs and other music professionals interested in the interpretation of ancient music, as well as to the general public.

The breakdown of all the initiatives that brings together the workshop, which will run from this Friday to the month of September, is as follows:

Participatory Cantatas

They suppose the opportunity to spread the baroque and classical music thanks to the University Orchestra and the collaboration of the singing students of the superior conservatories of the Basque Country and Catalonia, which will unite their voices with those of the University Choir.

The scheduled dates for the cantatas are Wednesday, March 20, at 9:00 p.m., at the church of La Merced in Murcia and on Thursday, March 21, at 8:30 p.m. in the church of La Caridad de Cartagena.

Bach Week Cartagena

In addition, musicians from the UMU Orchestra will participate in this initiative organized by the City of Cartagena, through street concerts and didactic concerts that will take place in various schools and libraries of the municipality on 20 and 21 March.

Course of initiation to the Historicist Interpretation

From the 5th to the 7th of April, Daniel Pinteño will give an introductory course in Historicist Interpretation at the Museum of the City of Murcia.

This type of training is a novel and demanded offer in the Region that complements that offered in the Murcian conservatories.

International ECOS Residency Program

The International Program of Resident Groups ECOS takes place during the Antigua Music Festival of Sierra Espuña, which will take place from July 22 to 28.

It attracts young groups at the beginning of their professional career to Sierra Espuña to share their music in the surroundings of the gardens and the sanctuary of La Santa de Totana.

Historical Singing Academy

The Academy of Historical Singing attracts young singers who will receive highly specialized training with professors of international scope.

It will conclude with a concert that will be held in Los Alcázares, within the Mar Menor Historical Music Series, which will take place from September 16 to 21, and in which the Orchestra of the University of Murcia will also participate.

During the presentation, Esperanza Clares, director of the Music Classroom, which includes the workshop, explained that the classroom structures its programming in three lines of action: interpretation, training and research.

"Through these areas it is intended to offer a set of activities that cover different styles, from historical to traditional music or even urban and modern" he added.

The ceremony has been concluded by the Rector Luján, who has been proud of this initiative directed by Jorge Losana and of the University of Murcia attending society's demands through university extension activities.

He has also pointed out the importance of training and research on the musical phenomenon and has stressed that the institution has been one of the main cultural references in the region for more than 100 years.
