The UMU hosts the 'Hercules Project' conference to improve synergies between universities and the general public (13/03/2019)

The University of Murcia inaugurates on Thursday, March 14, the technical seminars 'Project Hercules' for the constitution of working groups of the Research Management System in the Hemicycle of the Faculty of Letters, at 11 o'clock.

The act will have the presence, among others, of José Luján, rector of the UMU;

Francisco Esquembre, vice chancellor of Research and Transfer;

and Jose Antonio Cascales, manager of the UMU.

The Hercules project is an initiative that starts from the Sectoral Committee on Information and Communication Technologies of the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE-TIC).

The starting point of this project is the problem caused by the fact that, currently, each Spanish university has defined specific Research Management procedures.

This means that its exploitation by third parties presents problems of interoperability between heterogeneous information sources.

Therefore, the objective is to create a Research Management System (SGI) based on open semantic data that offers a global view of the research data of the Spanish University System (SUE), to improve the management, analysis and the possible synergies between universities and the general public.

This model of a single management system is similar to that followed by a large number of European countries.

The conference, which will take place on March 14 and 15, is intended to be the framework in which working groups are set up to determine what functional requirements should be addressed by the nascent Hercules Research Management System.

The project is endowed with a budget of more than five million euros and is co-financed at eighty percent by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

It is the result of an agreement signed between the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the University of Murcia.

The action is part of the Plurirregional Operational Program of Spain 2014-2020.
