Record of participation in the Physics Olympiad of the Region of Murcia 2019 (13/03/2019)

More than a hundred students have participated in the tests this year, which will be closed by the President of the Royal Spanish Physics Society.

On Thursday, March 14, the regional phase of the Spanish Physics Olympiad will take place at the University of Murcia.

In it, Baccalaureate students examine their knowledge of Physics.

The Physics Olympiad of the Region of Murcia takes place on Thursday, March 13 in the General Aulario of the Espinardo Campus of the University of Murcia, with a record participation of more than a hundred students and a quarter of girls.

After the tests, the contestants will enjoy a talk on the Principle of Relativity that will be taught by the President of the Royal Spanish Physics Society.

The Physics Olympiad is an annual competition for high school students that aims to promote the teaching of this science in the Region, constitute a meeting point between students and teachers and select the contestants who represent Murcia in the Spanish Olympiad.

The test consists in the resolution of physics problems contextualized in real life situations, such as, for example, the study of the movement of satellites and planets, the properties of sound and light, or the operation of electric motors.

The contestants have to demonstrate the knowledge of Physics learned in secondary education, and to put to the test both their analytical capacity and their creativity.

The winners will compete, along with the other students selected in the local phases of the rest of the country, from April 25 to 28 in the national phase, the XXX Spanish Physics Olympiad, which this year is held in Salamanca.

This action is organized by the Local Committee of the Spanish Royal Society of Physics and has a support to the organization of Scientific Olympiads of the Region of Murcia funded by the Ministry of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment of the CARM, through of the Seneca Foundation-Agency of Science and Technology of the Region of Murcia.

Collaborates the University of Murcia, through the Faculty of Chemistry.
