Murcia will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Tajo-Segura transfer with a large open and participatory party on Saturday, March 30 (12/03/2019)

José Ballesta: "We want to celebrate with optimism and joy this element that supposed the radical transformation of all these lands of the Spanish southeast, under the motto 'The water that unites us'".

The Tajo-Segura transfer serves 2.5 million people and more than 320,000 jobs depend on it.

This infrastructure, made up of 292 kilometers of canals, aqueducts and tunnels, contributes more than 2,300 million euros to the national GDP.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, attended today the presentation of the commemorative events of the 40th anniversary of the Tajo-Segura transfer, which will begin with the holding of a series of concerts in the city of Murcia on Saturday March 30 in Murcia , which is the day before the arrival of the transfer water in 1979, now four decades ago.

"We want this anniversary to become a great party open to all Murcia, to celebrate with joy and optimism this element that meant the radical transformation of all these lands of the Spanish southeast, which transformed the lives of our parents, ours and I am sure that also those of our children, "said José Ballesta.

The event was also attended by the president of SCRATS, Lucas Jiménez, the director of Communication and External Relations of Estrella de Levante, Yayo Delgado, and the president of the Food Bank, Bonifacio Fernández.

Solidarity bar in the Great Party of the 80s and 90s

Under the slogan 'The water that unites us', on March 30 there will be free concerts in the Plaza de la Cruz Roja and El Carmen, and the Drilo gang will be in the Garden of Fame.

The Parque de Fofó Auditorium, from 18.00, will host the Great Party of the 80s and 90s, with the Estrella de Levante solidarity bar for the benefit of the Food Bank of Murcia.

The City Council will give public spaces for the celebration of the different events, as well as collaborate in the necessary logistics and infrastructures.

The transfer, in figures

The Tajo-Segura transfer serves 2.5 million people and more than 320,000 jobs depend on it.

This infrastructure, formed by 292 kilometers of channels, aqueducts and tunnels, contributes to the national GDP more than 2,300 million euros

Since 1978 the transfer brings water from the Tagus River to the head of the Segura and distributes it to the irrigable areas.

Today, thanks to this contribution of water, the Spanish southeast is known as 'the Garden of Europe'
