The UMU expands its production of photovoltaic solar energy with an installation in the veterinary farm of the Espinardo Campus (12/03/2019)

The University of Murcia has made an installation for the production of photovoltaic solar energy in the veterinary farm of the Espinardo Campus.

With a nominal power of 20 kilowatts (kW), the installation will generate an average of 93 kWh / day, which in the year amount to 34,060 kWh according to the data of the Electricity and Electronics section of the Technical Unit of the UMU, which has been the one in charge of supervising the project.

With this action, an approximate savings of 3,700 euros per year is expected compared to the current price of electricity.

The objective of this investment, which has been 39,000 euros, is the reduction of energy consumption and the commitment to production models that respect the environment.

The vice-rector of Infrastructure Planning foresees the progressive implementation of renewable energy systems in the rest of the university buildings, provided budgetary conditions permit.

This installation for the use of solar energy joins the ones that already have the University of Murcia for self-consumption isolated from the network and that supply the Pleiades building, the Departmental LAIB (in the Campus of Health Sciences) and on the slopes Sports

The UMU also has a large photovoltaic plant connected to the network over numerous car parks and university centers.

The actions carried out by the institution in this area are in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations, specifically those of 'Affordable and non-polluting energy' and 'Action for Climate'.
