Adif AV starts the pedestrian walkway in the vicinity of the level crossing of Santiago el Mayor in Murcia (08/03/2019)

Once the installation of the elevators is finished, the construction of a metal structure of 26.5 m in length and 20 Tn in weight, equipped with 2 lifts on each side with panoramic glass, suitable for pedestrians and cyclists, is completed.

This action guarantees the permeability of the area as the burial works progress, by allowing the connection of the neighborhoods located on both sides of the road, between Torre de Romo and Pío XII streets

On March 16 the level crossing of Santiago el Mayor for vehicles is closed and on a date that will not exceed 21 for pedestrian crossing

The City Council has arranged a free alternative shuttle bus service

Adif Alta Velocidad has completed the installation of the pedestrian walkway in the vicinity of the pass at the level of Santiago el Mayor, located about 800 m from the Murcia del Carmen station.

The objective of this footbridge is to guarantee the transversal permeability as the underground works of the railway line in the capital of Murcia progress.

Once the double elevators have been installed on each side of the walkway, once the works have been completed and the corresponding tests have been carried out, the footbridge that allows the transit of pedestrians and cyclists is put into operation.

The structure is open to pedestrian traffic due to the progress of the underground works, which are undertaken in the place currently occupied by the pass at the level of Santiago el Mayor, located at pp.

kk.

460 + 618 of the line that connects Murcia with Alicante and Cartagena.

The aforementioned step at the level of Santiago el Mayor closes on March 16 for vehicles and, on a date that will not exceed March 21, for the passage of pedestrians, with the footbridge already in operation that will allow maintaining pedestrian permeability.

The City Council has arranged a free alternative shuttle bus service, there being an alternative route for traffic.

The footbridge is designed to save the provisional railway branch and the area where the burial works continue in the space occupied by the current layout.

It connects the streets of Torre de Romo and Pío XII, guaranteeing the permeability of the two neighborhoods located on both sides of the railway infrastructure.

This project is part of the Adif Alta Velocidad commitment to guarantee the full integration and permeability of the new railway infrastructures in the territories through which they run, as well as to increase safety for citizens and rail traffic.

Characteristics of the footbridge

The new catwalk, projected provisionally while the burial works are undertaken in the Santiago el Mayor crossing area, has been designed with a robust and avant-garde structure, using innovative materials of high strength and durability, which incorporate reinforced composites. with fibroplastics and stainless steel, among other elements.

It is composed of a metallic structure corresponding to a lattice beam, to continue with other elements that were previously pre-assembled in workshops for its later implementation, already completed.

Among its most important features include the following:

It has a length of 26.5 m distributed in 1 vain, and a width of 2.75 m.

It has 4 elevators (2 on each side) with capacity for 8 people each, suitable for people with reduced mobility and equipped with panoramic glass.

The staircase sections are formed by latticework with a lateral closing of electrowelded mesh and anti-slip paint.

It has lighting system and guardrail on both sides.

Despite its provisional nature, it offers a design fully respectful of the environment and integration in the urban environment.

Both the area of the pedestrian walkway and the surroundings have a surveillance system for 24 hours in order to ensure the tranquility and safety of the neighbors.

European financing

The works to improve permeability will be co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Plurirregional PO of Spain 2014-2020, Thematic Objective 7: Sustainable transport.
