'Pescados con arte' returns to promote the consumption of species from the coast of Murcia captured in an artisanal way (05/03/2019)

Bringing Murcia and Murcia to artisanal fishing, promoting species of fish from our coasts that are unknown and teaching how to differentiate local species in season, are some of the objectives that Fish with Art II brings, the second part of a project in which last year some 7,500 people participated.

The proposal, which was presented this morning by Maruja Pelegrín, Councilor for Commerce and Institutional Relations, Jesús Nicolás, president of the Columbares Association, and Carmen Molina, coordinator of the project, also seeks to provide the necessary learning to interpret the labeling of the products fresh fishing and some criteria for a responsible purchase, participate in the preparation of recipes and know the natural and marine heritage of our coast.

In this second edition, two types of activities have been organized: the 'Peceando' workshops for pupils of the 5th and 6th grades of primary schools in the municipality of Murcia, and 'Pescado en familia, un mar de platos' -directed to families

In both cases dynamics will be included in the fresh fishmongers of the Veronicas food market and a gastronomic workshop in which the assistants will prepare different recipes with local fish guided by chef Fulgencio Guirao.

Thus, the workshop 'Fish in family, a sea of ​​dishes' will take place on Saturday March 30 at the Veronicas Market, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

It is a free activity aimed at family audiences (children as of 10 years old) and to participate it will be essential to pre-register before the 27th through the form that is provided on the website of the entity.

Primary students 'peceando'

As for the workshops 'Peceando', will be held during school hours on April 12;

10, 15, 21 and 22 May and 5, 11, 12, 14, 18, 19 and 21 June.

Also free of charge, places will be assigned in order of registration, which must be done through the form provided on the website of the entity.

Maruja Pelegrín highlighted in the presentation "the importance of promoting and supporting this type of initiative, aimed at enhancing the value of municipal markets and the local purchase of proximity, and a model of sustainable fishing."

Pescados con Arte II is an initiative of the Asociación Columbares and the Association of Artisanal Fishermen of the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park (PESCARTES) to raise awareness of the social, environmental, cultural and gastronomic value of fisheries caught in an artisanal way. the Murcian-Almerian coastline and promote the consumption of sustainable fisheries products.

The project has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, through the High Water Program, co-financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, in collaboration with the University of Murcia, the Amureco Association and Fornet.

Pescados con Arte II contributes to achieving the objectives of the LIFE IP INTEMARES project "Integrated, innovative and participatory management of the Natura 2000 Network in the Spanish marine environment".
