The new edition of fish with art will bring local fish and seafood to all audiences (05/03/2019)

Last year, more than 7,500 people participated in the numerous events that were organized

This 2019, the Fishes with Art II project of the Columbares Association, continues its journey on the Murcian-Almeria coast and extends its offer in the Murcian capital with two types of activities: the Peceando workshops for 5th and 6th graders ° of primary schools in the municipality of Murcia- and Fish as a family, a sea of ​​dishes -directed to families.

Both activities will include dynamics in the fresh fish stores of the food market and a gastronomic workshop in which the assistants will prepare different recipes with local fish guided by the chef Fulgencio Guirao.

Bringing citizens closer to artisanal fishing, promoting fish species from our coasts unknown to many from Murcia, teaching how to differentiate local seasonal species, learning to interpret the labeling of fresh fishery products and some criteria for a responsible purchase, participating in the elaboration of delicious recipes with a taste of the sea, knowing the natural and marine heritage of our coast ... All this and much more is what the Pescados con Arte II project brings us, the second part of a project in which last year directly involved some 7,500 people.

The workshops

The first activity, the Fish in the family workshop, a sea of ​​dishes, will take place on Saturday, March 30, at the Verónicas Market, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

It is a free activity aimed at family audiences (children as of 10 years old).

To participate, it is essential to make prior registration through the form provided on the website of the entity (deadline: March 27).

As for the Peceando workshops, they will be held during school hours on April 12;

10, 15, 21 and 22 May and 5, 11, 12, 14, 18, 19 and 21 June.

Also free of charge, places will be assigned by strict order of registration, which must be done through the form provided on the website of the entity.

Carmen Molina Navarro, coordinator of the Fishes with Art II project of the Columbares Association, assured that "the project wants to bring the unknown fishing world closer to the public, and particularly to traditional fishing, highlighting the fisherman's wisdom, knowledge and accumulated experience and valuing its role as conservator of the sea ".

Molina thanked the City of Murcia for the excellent reception given to the Columbares Association and the project.

For its part, María del Carmen Pelegrín, Councilor for Trade, Organization and Institutional Relations of the City of Murcia, highlighted the greater role that the Fish with Art II project will have this year in the city of Murcia and has influenced "the importance of promote and support initiatives such as this one, aimed at enhancing the value of municipal markets and the local purchase of proximity, and a sustainable fishing model ".

Pescados con Arte II is an initiative of the Asociación Columbares and the Association of Artisanal Fishermen of the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park (PESCARTES) to inform the public of the social, environmental, cultural and gastronomic value of the fishery captured from artisanal form in the Murcian-Almerian coast and promote the consumption of sustainable fishing products.

The project has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation, of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition, through the High Water Program, co-financed by the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund, in collaboration with the University of Murcia, the Amureco Association and Fornet.

Pescados con Arte II contributes to achieving the objectives of the LIFE IP INTEMARES project "Integrated, innovative and participatory management of the Natura 2000 Network in the Spanish marine environment".
