Huermur requests to visit the archaeological stores of Culture (05/03/2019)

Huermur requested by registration last July to the Minister of Culture to visit with the Heritage Service technicians the regional warehouses where thousands of archaeological pieces are kept, in order to check first hand their state of conservation and that of the facilities.

Huermur points out that little is known about what is stored in these warehouses, but the little information that can be found on the Internet attests to the large number of objects and remains that have been discovered during the last decades.

Neither is the actual state of these remains known.

The conservationist organization reproaches the Regional Government for the obscurantism and the lack of response to the formal request for a visit from Huermur to these warehouses, which house a very important part of the historical heritage of Murcia and its orchard, for which they demand an immediate response.

The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) formally requested last July to the Ministry of Culture of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, a guided tour with the technicians of the Heritage Service to the regional stores where thousands of archaeological pieces and cultural assets of the Region are housed and stored, as well as those that have been found in numerous and varied archaeological sites throughout the territory of the garden, from the municipality of Alcantarilla to Santomera through Murcia and Beniel.

They indicate from Huermur that, from these excavations and actions that have been carried out in the last decades throughout the valley, an infinity of objects and remains of archaeological and cultural value have been obtained, which have been taken and guarded in the different warehouses or areas of reservation that the Autonomous Community has for this purpose.

What is kept in these stores is little known, but the little information that can be found on the Internet attests to the large number of objects and remains that have been discovered during the last decades.

Equally, the real state of these remains is not known, nor are they known by the general public.

Therefore, from Huermur and for the sake of transparency and citizen participation, we have requested a visit to the warehouses of the Autonomous Community where this historical and cultural heritage of Murcia is housed and stored.

All of the above given the prevailing need to be able to know first hand these findings, their state of conservation and storage, unknown to the pro-heritage collectives for years.

In the same sense has been pronounced the President of Huermur, Sergio Pacheco, who has indicated that: "We know that in these warehouses and reserve areas of the Ministry of Culture there are large amounts of archaeological remains and materials from decades of deposits, and some as important as Monteagudo, San Esteban, Algezares, Roman remains of Palmar, or those that appeared during the construction of the Corvera airport, so it is necessary that civil society can see firsthand how they are conserved and stored. "

Finally, Huermur criticizes the Ministry of Culture that has not deigned to date or to respond to this request for formal visit, having already been more than seven months since the request, so they require a response to demonstrate that this part of everyone's assets is accessible to the public.
