A photo exhibition warns about the situation of women in Burkina Faso (04/03/2019)

The exhibition, which is part of the Murcia City Council's program for the March 8 International Women's Day, can be visited this week at the Puertas de Castilla center.

Tomorrow has been organized a day of reflection and debate to combat the wage gap, which will address both existing detection protocols and measures for their correction.

The Councilor for Social Rights and Development Cooperation, Conchita Ruiz, opened this morning the exhibition 'The Woman of Burkina', which aims to raise awareness of the situation of inequality suffered by mothers and daughters in front of men in each of the stages of life.

The exhibition, which is part of the Murcia City Council's program for the March 8 International Women's Day, will remain during this week at the Puertas de Castilla Municipal Center.

In it you can see through a dozen photographs the situation of women in this country, where power is in the hands of men, who have reserved access to land, natural source and income generator.

From birth, the community shows a predilection for men, while women are given the role of having children and submitting to the will of their husband.

In addition, genital mutilation, which in Africa suffers one in three women, in Burkina Faso is punishable by 6 months in prison.

The exhibition highlights the harshness of life in the villages, where the houses are made of adobe, suffer great droughts and live in a regime of polygamy.

Many families without resources migrate to settlements, approaching the capital, which, as in the case of Boassa, does not have running water.

And it is the women and children who must go to look for her in the wells every day.

They also lack sewer and electricity and only have a precarious dispensary for the 30,000 inhabitants.
