Are we going towards a supervised society ?, the University of Murcia reflects on the hand of the technological journalist Marta Peirano (27/02/2019)

The talk will begin at 19 am in the Assembly Hall of Cajamar (Plaza Julián Romea, 4).

The entrance is free until full capacity is reached.

In the digital society, information and communication technologies have facilitated the collection and transmission of data.

The conference will reflect on the extent to which technological innovation and the greatest possibilities for the use of information should be exploited without limitations or, on the contrary, subject to a demanding regulation.

The presentation will be in charge of Julián Valero Torrijos, Professor of Administrative Law at the University of Murcia (UMU) and coordinator of iDerTec-Research Group on 'Innovation, Law and Technology'.

In his speech, he will offer an introductory explanation of the existing regulatory context in this area and, in particular, of the innovations introduced by the European Union Regulation approved in 2016 on the protection of personal data and the recent Organic Law 3/2018.

The current technological context is characterized by the use of cameras installed in public and private places as a key to increase security.

In addition, objects are connected through the Internet and smart city systems based on the massive exchange of information begin to be implemented.

Similarly, the intensive use of social networks and other applications generates a huge amount of data, so that the providers of such services try to obtain reliable information about the activity carried out by users.

"Beyond the strictly academic approach that is being promoted from various UMU groups and the professional perspective that inspires the work of the professional activity of the legal profession, the debate can not be left only in these areas", highlights Valero.

For the expert, it is necessary to promote initiatives that allow social participation in this debate, an objective that the Mariano Ruiz Funes Foundation has set up by organizing this event with the collaboration of iDerTec of the UMU.

In this sense, the intervention of Periano will allow, from the rigor that guarantees his specialization in this field, to approach with simplicity and closeness the relevant legal problems underlying.
