Gisela Pulido: "I want to represent Spain in an Olympic Games" (26/02/2019)

The 'kitesurf' will be in the program of Paris 2024 in the modality of speed and the ten times world champion, student of the Degree in Advertising and Public Relations of the UCAM, will have to adapt to this modality to fulfill his Olympic dream

The Hall of Acts of the Campus of Los Jerónimos of the Catholic University of Murcia has received Gisela Pulido, the athlete who holds the record of being the youngest woman to win a World Championship of kitesurfing (she achieved it with 10 years).

Nearly two hundred students from the School of Sports of the UCAM have had the opportunity to listen to their experiences as a high level sportsman, their preparation methods and their new challenges, thus learning first-hand about one of the great Spanish athletes of all times .

One of the aspects he has mentioned is the new challenge that has emerged when he learned that kitesurfing will be an Olympic sport.

Gisela Pulido, 10 times freestyle world champion of this sport, has drawn a new objective in her challenge sheet: Paris 2024. The only downside is that the designated modality for the Games is speed (races) and in the one that she has triumphed conquering ten world-wide ones is the one of acrobatics (freestyle or freestyle).

This represents a series of very important changes if Gisela wants to be Olympic: "In 2015 I stopped competing in 'freestyle' and started with other challenges such as facing the eight Canary Islands and crossing them with the 'kite' in seven days or The big waves challenge Now we know it's going to be an Olympic sport in Paris 2024 and I want to prepare myself although it implies a change of discipline I have to adapt to a different kite and a new board Everything changes: the rules and the strategy I want to prepare for it, I have time to train, compete and get the necessary experience because I want to represent Spain in an Olympic Games. "

While the time comes to know exactly the system of competition and classification for Paris 2024, Gisela continues to take on challenges in various disciplines such as surfing, skydiving and freediving: "I have always had an obsession with the waves. world where the giant waves break and they do it at a certain time, they have to give themselves the perfect conditions so the project is to look for that wave, now I'm going to Hawaii to train and see if I can surf the wave of Hawaii in Jaws and then in French Polynesia and in Fiji, always in search of that giant wave. "

Business and studies, the other dimension of Gisela

Not everything is to compete and go looking for new sporting challenges.

Gisela Pulido has also managed to transfer her talent to the business world with two schools of kitesurfing and a physical and online store of products related to the sports she practices.

And all this adding his training at the UCAM as a student of the Degree in Advertising and Public Relations.

It is hard but it can be combined thanks to the tutorial model for athletes of the Catholic University of Murcia and their own discipline when it comes to setting work schedules: "It is very complicated because in my sport we depend on the conditions of the sea and the wind and we spend a lot of time away from home looking for the best conditions to train, training is usually very demanding and when you get home after a double session, physical in the morning and technical in the afternoon, it is hard to get to study. have a routine to finish the day studying and take advantage of the days with less wind to work more in the studios ".
