The City Council will strengthen with professionals the prevention of sexist violence in Violet Points (26/02/2019)

Councilor for Social Rights and Development Cooperation, Conchita Ruiz, chaired this morning the Equality Council of the City of Murcia that has studied in its session this morning the actions to be developed under the state pact for the year 2019 and the procedure of the Local Coordination Table on gender violence and evaluation of the actions carried out during the year 2018 foreseen in the II Municipal Plan for equal opportunities between women and men.

Thus, the City of Murcia will reinforce the attention and prevention of sexist violence in the upcoming events in which a large number of people, especially young people, such as the Spring Festival and the WARM festival meet, with the installation of Violet Points that they will be assisted by volunteers and professionals, hired with funding from the State Pact against Gender Violence.

This is one of the actions that has been reported today in the Municipal Council of Equality and in which the different projects that will be implemented in the coming days have been detailed to improve and advance the fight against gender violence, as agreed in the State Pact.

Thus, among the actions planned by the Department of Social Rights is, in addition to reinforcing with professionals Violet Points, expand the staff of professionals that make up the EMAVI (Municipal Team for Attention to Victims of Gender Violence) and that serve and inform women victims of violence against women.

Likewise, the campaigns to raise awareness and prevent any form of violence against women will be intensified, especially those that are in a situation of greater vulnerability, such as older women, women with disabilities or immigrants.

In addition, it is planned to publish a teaching guide that complements the information received by schools that participate in the municipal program 'Love we feel good', prevention against violence against women.

In total, the City of Murcia has received 80,000 euros of funding from the State Pact Against Gender Violence to develop activities that must be completed on June 30.

Finally, in the session of the Equality Council has been reported on the status of the evaluation of the actions taken during the year 2018, collected in the II Municipal Plan for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men, and whose final report will be published in the last Equality Council of the legislature, scheduled for the month of May.
