Murcia, present at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, ​​with its smart city model (25/02/2019)

José Ballesta holds several meetings with representatives of Red.es and managers of the most important technology companies in the sector, to finalize the imminent launch of the smart city project 'MiMurcia'.

Red.es has published this morning the announcement of the award of the 'MiMurcia' project for 7.3 million euros.

The contract will be signed from March 20 to 26.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for the Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, attended this morning the inauguration of the Mobile World Congress that takes place in Barcelona, ​​the world meeting of connectivity to which It expects more than 100,000 people to come until next Thursday.

His Majesty King Felipe VI presided over the opening ceremony accompanied by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.

Throughout the day, José Ballesta is holding various working meetings with officials of the state agency Red.es and executives of leading companies in the sector, specifically Telefónica, Huawei and NEC, to address projects in the field of Smart City and the imminent launch of the smart city project 'MiMurcia'.

Red.es has published this morning the announcement of the award of the project 'MiMurcia', whose contract will be signed from 20 to 26 March.

It is "the most ambitious digital urban transformation in Spain" -valued the mayor-, awarded to the UTE Telefónica and IECISA, with a bidding budget that exceeds 7.3 million euros.

To analyze its implementation after the signing of the contract, the mayor met in the Spanish Government pavilion of the Mobile World Congress with the CEO of Red.es, David Cierco, the deputy director of Smart Cities of Red.es , Elena González Miguel, and with the director of Servicios Públicos Digitales de Red.es, Francisco Javier García Vieira.

On the other hand and to coordinate with the awarded UTE the beginning of the execution of the contract, has also met at the stand of Telefonica with the general director of Telefónica in Catalonia, Comunidad Valenciana, Baleares and Región de Murcia, Kim Faura;

the director of Digital Services and Public Sector in Telefónica, Bruno Vilarasau;

Director of Public Administration at Telefónica, José Manuel Plaza.

Innovation and prototype center

During his stay at the Fira de Barcelona, ​​the mayor also met with the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of NEC Europe, the Japanese Hironobu Kurosaki, and the vice president of the company, Toshiba Matsuki.

They addressed aspects related to the future Innovation Center and different technological developments.

Also, both the mayor and councilman José Guillén met with executives of Huawei, with the aim of advancing the prototype and testing of portable emergency terminals that will go to the Local Police and Fire.

"Murcia is going to become an avant-garde environment in the national environment, in which the latest technologies applied to the field of urban management and the daily needs of the residents of the municipality in areas such as connectivity in public spaces, traffic management will be developed. , interconnection of public transport, sustainability, promotion of local commerce, etc. ", informed the mayor in Barcelona.

2,300 exhibitors

This international meeting on the digital management of cities has the presence of 2,300 exhibitors that are distributed over an area of ​​120,000 square meters, 5,000 more than last year.

The protagonist of this edition is 5G technology, which significantly improves the capacity of mobile networks.
