Law students of the UMU participate in the most prestigious International Public Law tournament in the world (25/02/2019)

Students of the Faculty of Law of the University of Murcia have participated in the national qualification round for the international competition of law students 'Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition', which took place in Madrid during the month of February .

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the largest and most prestigious International Public Law tournament in the world, bringing together more than 680 law schools from 100 countries and jurisdictions.

During the competition, participating teams must simulate a fictitious dispute between two States for a current legal conflict before the International Court of Justice, a judicial organ of the United Nations.

For this, they have to prepare the two parts of the case, both demand and defense, with their corresponding writings and oral rounds.

The team of the Faculty of Law of the UMU, composed of the students Silvia López Arnao, María del Rosell Ros García, Justyna Smela Wolski, Fernando Castillo Botero and Miguel Olmedo Castaño, received the congratulations of the attendees and judges for the quality of their oral presentations and the solidity of his legal arguments, even though his first participation in this contest.

Professor of International Public Law and International Relations Dorothy Estrada Tanck was responsible for preparing the team of the University of Murcia, and served as an advisor Professor Cesáreo Gutiérrez Espada, Professor Emeritus of International Public Law and International Relations.

The competition, which this year has reached the sixtieth edition worldwide and the ninth in Spain, is held annually and culminates in the final of the international tournament that takes place in Washington DC every spring.

This year, the Autonomous University of Madrid will represent Spain in the international rounds, which won the national final round.
