Serrano proposes to create a denomination of origin for the products of the garden and strengthen this economic sector focused on employment and tourism (25/02/2019)

The candidate for the mayor of Murcia says that "we are privileged to have this natural and scenic space that, in addition, is still productive and with a great heritage, especially hydraulic, which we will restore to serve as an example of efficient use of the water"

It remembers the constant denunciations throughout the mandate on the bad state of the ashlars of the Contraparada, of the different mills and of the acequias, "and in this Plenary we demanded the conditioning of the ditch Barriers and the restoration of the aqueduct of the Felices"

The candidate for the Mayor of Murcia, José Antonio Serrano, defends the garden as the most unique historical heritage of the municipality that "we must protect, preserve and value because it can continue to be one of our sources of wealth."

Therefore, it proposes to create a denomination of origin for the products of the Murcian garden.

In the past days on Huerta and Decentralization it was clear that "we Murcia are privileged because we have a natural space that, despite the ravages of the great urbanism suffered, is still productive, therefore, through our garden we can put in the market products of high quality, activating a local commerce, under a recognizable identity ".

In this sense, it points "the creation of a quality mark associated with the product of the garden with the name 'I am from Murcia', which has a local distribution network and which is certified zero waste".

Thus, according to Serrano, can contribute to create a sector that generates employment and wealth around the garden, always under the principles of respect, "since we must also preserve it to show tourism our way of cultivating, which entails an effort to preserve the typical buildings and, of course, the irrigation network not only for its history but also as a demonstration of the efficient use of water ".

In addition, he affirms that "our program includes the proposal to implement maintenance plans, conservation and restoration of rich and varied heritage, among which we can find dams, canals, bridges, aqueducts, tower houses or mills, many of them protected but very deteriorated and some almost disappeared, as well as the enhancement of the ancient network of hydraulic infrastructures for control, storage and water use, which comes from the Muslim era, and which is an example of a system designed to optimize the use of water " .

In this sense, Serrano recalls that the Municipal Socialist Group in the City Council has denounced on several occasions throughout the mandate the poor state of the ashlars of the Contraparada, raised from the heavy rains of December 2016, the different mills and ditches .

In fact, in the Plenary this week, returns to claim the conditioning of one of the ditches, in this case, the Barreras, and the restoration of the Los Felices aqueduct.

"I would like that in the end we could achieve that this hydraulic infrastructure, from the Contraparada to the last ditch was recognized as a UNESCO Heritage, as it has already achieved with our Council of Good Men," said Serrano.

For the PSOE, according to Serrano, "Murcia's garden must last many more centuries and not only for what it can provide us as an industry, but because our roots are there, our hallmark, because it is the articulating landscape of the municipality, the element of union of our towns with the city, the basic ingredient of our economy, and all this must be made known to the world ".

The socialist candidate says he is convinced that "if we understand that the garden is a source of wealth and development, we would all be aware of its protection, of the need to defend it from any new aggression that could undermine it".
