More than 250 people have contributed around 600 proposals for the uses of Pavilions 1 and 2 of the Artillery Barracks (23/02/2019)

The participatory process takes the Barracks, which aims to collect the proposals of the residents of the neighborhood of Carmen on the uses of Pavilions 1 and 2 of the Artillery Barracks, closed yesterday with an assembly in which fifty people participated.

Families with children, youth, representatives of associations such as neighbors and merchants, and citizens from other areas of Murcia discussed some of the most repeated ideas, such as the need for a meeting and work space for neighborhood groups or the importance that "public, regular and intergenerational cultural activities" are welcomed in these venues.

In addition, some participants were encouraged to propose new ideas, such as providing pavilions of youth spaces for leisure and culture, following the model of La Nave, the design of urban gardens in the vicinity or the need to intervene in the environment of the Barracks, beyond the buildings, in an integral way, enhancing and improving the green areas.

According to Marta Latorre and Isabel Cutillas, professors of the Department of Sociology of the University of Murcia and technical coordinators of the Project, promoted by the Municipal Board of Carmen, "250 people have left more than 600 contributions that will be ordered and collected in a report that , together with the previous diagnosis study, will be delivered to the government team and to all the political formations with representation in the Town Hall ".

Information points in emblematic and central locations of the neighborhood attended by citizens with regularity, individual interviews and workshops with representatives of associations, professionals from the field of culture and neighbors from different parts of the district have served to collect opinions and analyze the needs of El Carmen spaces.

Carlos Egio, member of the Municipal Board, explained that "according to the motion approved by the City Council Plenary in June 2017, the proposals of the neighbors must be included among the future uses of Pavilions 1 and 2. The agreement includes respect the cultural purposes of part of the space and allocate some dependencies to host the Railway Museum. "
