More than 300 boys and girls have participated in the Educational Reinforcement Project since 2015 (23/02/2019)

The Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation launched this February a new edition of 'The Project of Educational Reinforcement and Prevention of School Absenteeism with Volunteering'.

"This initiative aims to improve the educational process of children and adolescents who are in disadvantaged social situations and have low academic performance or school integration difficulties, developing an individualized intervention through volunteering." As a result of this intervention and its results prevent absenteeism and school failure, decreasing early school leaving "as explained by councilor Conchita Ruiz.

Since 2015, more than 300 children and 252 volunteers have participated in this plan, of which 80% are women.

The children targeted by the project are boys and girls with whom they are intervening from the Municipal Centers of Social Services who attend compulsory education levels, being able to attend exceptionally students of infantile education or baccalaureate.

The reinforcement sessions will be developed, whenever possible, at the child's home, with a double intention: on the one hand, direct support to the child in their school work and promotion of study habits and, on the other hand, the involvement and sensitization to the family in their educational process.

These sessions last ninety minutes, twice a week, throughout the school year.

For its part, volunteers receive training and guidance, by a technical team that coordinates the project, to offer quality care to children, both at the school task level and attitude and motivation towards learning and in the improvement with its surroundings.

In the project can participate as volunteers, all people interested and sensitized with the child group, and more specifically in their educational environment, which would become part of the social volunteering of the Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation.

The majority of volunteers who have participated in the project over the years are students of the University of Murcia, likewise other channels are used for the dissemination of the project and recruitment of volunteers such as: Volunteer websites, Municipal Youth Informs, posters and social networks of the Council.
