The districts receive the greatest investment in history to promote the improvement of the quality of life and public services (22/02/2019)

The increase in the budget allows recovering spaces for neighbors, promoting infrastructures and reactivating the social and cultural activity of the localities.

Investments executed or budgeted since 2015 exceed 76.7 million euros, mostly for accessibility and road safety and construction or reform of study rooms, schools, sports facilities or gardens

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with councilman Marco Antonio Fernández, today offered the balance regarding the management carried out since 2015 in the districts, which has led to the improvement of the quality of life and public services enjoyed by their neighbors .

"The axis of our government action is identical in any neighborhood or district, because our project is the same for the entire municipality, so that all Murcia enjoy the same level of welfare regardless of where they reside," said the mayor.

For this, since 2015, 76.7 M € have been executed or budgeted in the districts and municipal councils have had a budget of 51.6 M € in the last almost four years, which is 56.9 more than in the Corporation previous.

This improvement in public services has been seen in new sports infrastructures -15 projects have been executed-, parks and gardens and stay areas -255 performances with an expense of 4.2 M €-, maintenance of schools -91 performances with a cost of almost € 3 million - besides creating a network of study halls and libraries to which new centers have been incorporated in Los Dolores, Torreagüera, Alquerías, Sangonera la Verde, Sangonera la Seca, El Palmar and Ronda Sur.

Likewise, 80 computers have been installed in municipal centers in 59 districts.

Social and cultural life

The reactivation of the social and cultural life of the districts has also been possible due to the investments made in the centers for the elderly, women and cultural centers.

The City Council has executed 132 improvement projects in the network of women's and senior centers, with a total expenditure of 1,220,122 euros.

Have been performances of installation of elevators, blinds or grills, energy efficiency measures or adaptation of adapted toilets, among others.

The cultural infrastructures have also received investments amounting to € 1,438,210, contributing to the increase of those attending the programmed activities, especially the network of municipal auditoriums.

A social life that the councilors of the government team have witnessed, who in the last four years have participated in more than 15,000 social, institutional, sports and cultural events that take place in the districts.

Another line of work has been the construction of public works to improve accessibility and road safety.

In this area we have carried out 2,000 actions for an amount of 10,127,327 euros to renovate pavements, asphalting and paving, to which 2.8 million more have been added, which have allowed us to carry out maintenance interventions on public roads.

Improvement of services

In this sense, a relevant project to improve the quality of life of people is the construction of the Green Path of the South Coast, whose completion is near and whose execution is called to become a strategic action for more than 45,000 inhabitants of the districts that runs along 8.5 kilometers.

An important chapter has also been the execution of 156 projects by Aguas de Murcia, with a cost of 11,581,734 euros, which have led to the installation of 17,343 meters of supply pipes and 13,125 meters of sanitation networks to improve services that the neighbors receive.

Increase the safety of people is also enhanced with adequate public lighting and, for this, the City has developed 156 projects that have allowed to install a total of 926 new points of light.

The improvement in public transport has also been particularly relevant, especially with the creation of a new line linking all the districts of the Costera Sur with the Arrixaca, the new line 61 and the recovery of the owl bus.
