La Huerta takes her soul to the heart of the city from March 2 to 10 (19/02/2019)

The IV Week of the Huerta comes with more than a hundred activities for all ages that include gastronomic routes, poetic recitals, bike marches, informative forums, concerts, regattas in the river, market huertano, children's workshops and a long etcetera.

José Ballesta announces the "Plan Huerta 2030, the most important environmental initiative of the next decade, for the protection and defense of this valuable historical, cultural and ecological legacy, which shapes the identity and roots of all Murcia."

In the last four years, we have worked on the recovery of 100,000 m2 of heritage, the new Greenway that will be opened in the coming weeks, Murcia Río, etc.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the councilor of Urbanism, Environment and Huerta, Antonio Navarro, presented today in the HuertoLab of Santa Eulalia the IV Week of the Huerta de Murcia, organized by the City Council with the Association of Friends de la Huerta Azacaya, an event that will take place from March 2 to 10, with more than a hundred activities for all ages and the participation of about forty groups, institutions and local groups.

"From the first day, the goal of the team that I direct has been to turn the Huerta de Murcia into a central axis of our management in the Town Hall, The creation of the first Department of Urbanism, Environment and Garden was a declaration of intentions that we has allowed the development of the Plan of Action of the Huerta de Murcia, a global strategy that has included measures on heritage, environment, aspects of planning (protection plans), awareness and dissemination and integral transformation projects such as 'Murcia Río' ", pointed out the mayor.

Llano de Brujas and El Carmen

This year, in addition, two environments stand out: the hamlet of Llano de Brujas and the neighborhood of El Carmen, where various activities will take place.

Another novelty of this IV edition is the introduction of new technologies through virtual reality glasses and the mobile App 'Alma de Huerta Game', with games with geolocation, questionnaires, memory, and incana with QR codes, riddles and promotion in social networks.

I Regatta of the Woman of the Huerta de Murcia

This year, coinciding with the Women's Day, on March 8, the 1st Regatta of the Woman of the Huerta de Murcia will be celebrated, with the collaboration of the Club UMU Murcia Río.

There will be a flow of flowers in the Segura river from the terrace of the Molinos del Río Hydraulic Museum and later regatta with women's dragons.

The next day, Saturday 9, there will be another popular regatta for all those who wish to participate.

Biodiversity Fair and Market of Huertanos Products

Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 March, at the Malecón Gardens, under the organization of the Botanical Department of the University of Murcia.

There will be exhibition and sponsorship of local species and exchange of seeds, workshops of Urban Gardens (vertical, soilless, therapeutic, eco-creative, development of nurseries, nest boxes and feeders for birds and auxiliary fauna of the garden, 'green life balls' or home remedies with plants), vegetarian cuisine and preparation of vegetable drinks.

CriCrí 87 'and the Fiesta del Barrio Huertano

On Saturday, March 9, CriCrí 87 'will take place, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm, in the neighborhood of El Carmen, under the organization of HuertaBizarra.

It is an acoustic huertano sunset in the heart of the city, coinciding with the moment of maximum splendor of the natural sounds of the Huerta, retransmitiendo live sound huertano in the streets of El Carmen, which this year will also host the Fiesta of the Huertano Neighborhood, on Sunday, March 10.

Llano de Brujas

Llano de Brujas will host many activities: on Saturday, March 2, the Fiesta de la Pedanía will be held, with selective collection and environmental awareness, workshops, a poetic recital in the Huerta language, Peñas Huertanas performance and popular food.

The new Plaza de la Alcaldía and different parts of La Huerta in this town will be the scene of many other activities.

BALANCE 2015-2019 PLAN OF ACTION OF THE GARDEN

The City Council develops the Plan of Action of the Huerta de Murcia by the hand of social groups, environmental organizations, environmental associations, cultural groups and institutions linked to this natural environment.

These are the main actions that have materialized over the last four years.

More than 100,000 m2 of recovered heritage

From 2015 to date, the Plan of Action of the Huerta de Murcia is making possible the recovery of more than 100,000 m2 of historical heritage: the slope of the Castle of Monteagudo (60,000m2, the expropriation of the land started), the Mill of Batán, Zarandona (6,100, completed action), the Molino del Amor, the Albatalía (3,700, in execution), Molino de la Pólvora, Rincón de Beniscornia-Guadalupe (940, in tender) and Casa Torre Falcón (185, project in development) ).

Green Way

In just a few weeks the Greenway will be inaugurated, connecting the districts of Southeast of Murcia (Los Dolores, San José de la Vega, Beniaján, Torreagüera and Los Ramos), and that will suppose the elimination of a historic barrier, providing more than 8 km of spaces to travel in a healthy way and the planting of 1,800 trees.

Murcia River

The project of social and environmental recovery 'Murcia River' is part of the Plan of Action of the Huerta and is integrated by the green spaces of the Alameda del Malecón -innovated last week-, the garden of the Four Stones - also already open -;

as well as the actions that are currently underway such as the revegetation of the right and left banks of the river and the next Riverwalk that will open before the summer.

Contraparada Visitor Center, will open this spring

On the other hand, within Murcia Río highlights the center of the Contraparada, which will be a point of reference for the dissemination of the natural, cultural, scenic and historical heritage of the Huerta de Murcia, will have the latest innovations and will offer information to know the origins de la Huerta and La Contraparada, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.

The property, whose adequacy and provision of equipment has a cost of 340,000 euros and a deadline of 9 months, will open this spring as an interactive museum of the Huerta.

Palmeral of Santiago and Zaraiche and Ruta de los Palmerales

In this time, the City of Murcia has recovered and put into value the historic palm grove of Zaraiche, a green space of about 9,000 square meters with more than 600 palm trees.

This traditional landscape of the Huerta de Murcia will be part of the I Ruta de los Palmerales of the Spanish Southeast and North of Africa.

Leisure Gardens

The municipal leisure gardens include an area of ​​more than 15,000 m2, distributed in 144 plots, which the City Council makes available to all citizens.

They are open spaces for the cultivation of vegetables under self-consumption regime, without profit motive, combining social, educational, environmental and patrimonial benefits, since local varieties in danger of extinction are conserved.

Tax credits and Land Bank

Awarded new tax credits to more than 100 landowners located in Caminos de Huerta to maintain agricultural activity, being currently in the process of reporting applications for next 2019. The Land Bank has also been launched to favor the exchange of land and its production.

Regulations for the protection and cataloging of the Huerta

· Initially approved the Special Plan for the Protection of the Malecón, calling for exhibitions and public participation processes, collecting a large part of the allegations made by residents and groups.

· Next publication of the advance of the Special Plan of the Historic Site of Monteagudo and Cabezo de Torres.
