UCAM and Twitch join forces to strengthen the presence of 'eSports' in the University (13/02/2019)

"Students have surprised us with their ability to challenge themselves, competing at the highest level and building vibrant communities on campuses around the world, with the 'Twitch Student' Program we offer you the means to increase your reach, represent your university on Twitch and acquire skills and experience for your future in electronic sports. "

These are the main lines of the Twitch video platform project for the field of education and 'eSports'.

With this approach it was logical that they link ties with the Spanish university that is betting more on electronic sports.

José Luis Mendoza, president of the UCAM;

Mark Candella, director of Strategic Alliances of Twitch, and José Parrilla, project coordinator of GGTech, have signed a three-party agreement that represents a great opportunity for growth for the International Chair of 'eSports' of the UCAM.

It is a great step for the Catholic University as it joins its steps to the video platform in 'eSports' par excellence worldwide.

In 2017, it registered more than 15 million unique visitors each day with a total of 355,000 million minutes played, data in continuous growth that gives an idea of the potential of this alliance.

Marc Candella highlighted the global work that the Catholic University is doing in electronic sports: "I think the UCAM is aware that 'eSports' can generate opportunities for its students, because it is a growing industry. for the rest of Spanish universities ".

As responsible for the Twitch Student program, Candella highlighted the benefit that university students can have in the development of this field at university: "The 'eSports' are not just video games, we are talking about new media, digital media and entertainment. Young people are learning valuable skills thanks to electronic sports and that is why it is logical that there is a meeting point between the university and the 'eSports' These competences have a real reflection that can be applied in companies and therefore this collaboration between Twitch and the UCAM is more than justified. "

Pau Guardiola, responsible for the Creative Area of the UCAM, was excited by this union, since "it has a spectacular potential" that is going to translate into benefits for the students of the university: "Twitch is one of the most recognized brands in The world of 'eSports', they have many ideas and they want to continue growing, one of the fields they are exploring is the world of teaching and that is where we find ourselves, where teaching, technology and university come together. perfect triangle appear many possibilities because all the fruits of this new technology will have a positive impact on the educational process of our students. "

It is precisely the students who give meaning to this project and those who are more aware of the potential of electronic sports.

This is what José Parrilla has said: "This movement was born from the students and the universities have been behind, the UCAM has been a pioneer because it listens to its people but the rest are already doing the same. Of course it can be good for your future. "
